Wetsanding Oops, need help!

Ok, so I got that do-it-yourself paint kit thats supposed to fill in scratches, and I was better off not using it. The paint that is SUPPOSED to match my cars paint is too dark, and the wetsanding after the clearcoat process scratched up the paintjob. Some rubbing compound and color treated wax helped make the hazing a little less noticable. Now it is just dull while all the paint around it is shiny. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

take it to a shop and let them buff it out with a buffer, we cna do some wierd **** with the new compunds they have for us out there...

if they cant take care if it, it will have to be repainted, if ou went through the clear coat that is, and thats what it sounds like

try using a finer sand paper. then use more abrasive waxs....even stuff like Meguiars 3 step waxs. do the wetsand, then stage 1, then 2, then 3. if that doesnt work you will have to get someone to highspeed polish it. i would do it for ya, but you gotta drive here to Toronto lol

Edit: make sure youre using enough water when wetsanding. dont mean to offend you but some people just dont know

Thanks for the replys guys. I DO have the Meguires 3 step wax system, so I'll give it a shot. I tried buffing it out with my orbital buffer and some 3M rubbing compound. It seemed to help a lot! Odds are that I did go through the clearcoat, as it was my first time wetsanding, and my first time buffering

It is almost 100% that if you have buffed it and it is shiny around an area with a dull spot, you probably went throught the clear. Where did you go through it at?

Easy way to tell if you went through the clear, what color was the slurry? If it was milky white then that's just clearcoat and you're safe. If it was the color of your car, you're screwed.

then use more abrasive waxs
wax's will not make it right...you'll have to use compounds and a high speed buffer to get a shine out of it. You can do it by hand all day long...sure..it will get a "rosey glow" but it won't get very shiney.

You'll need a high speed rotary buffer, product (polish/compound) and someones with mad skills who details for a living to get it perfect. I retired, sorry.

Here are a couple of decent articles to check out.

Just wetsand it out with 1500 grit paper and then go over it with 3Ms perfect it III you can do it by hand if its a small spot but a orbital buffer with a wool pad will really do the trick, after this wax should fill in the swirls from the polishing compound but you might want to get some 3M perfect it I swirl remover to make it look perfect, then wax.. done!
I would sand the area with that bad touch up stuff first and throw a little color matched paint on there before you try this so the paint actually blends somewhat

Ok, I went out and bought some 3M rubbing compound and buffed the door. It came out pretty good, now I need to wax it to get some swirls out. I was gonna get all that I sanded repainted eventually anyways, so this was just a temporary solution that snowballed out of control. Thanks everyone for the great advice!
