its not perfect but nothing i cant wetsand and buff out of it , i dont think i did to bad for the first time painting a car and had no help














i wanted to roll it out of the shop yesterday and intot he sun light to take pics but i didnt , ill head over today ini a lil while and get some outdoor pics in the sunlight

Looks bad ***. Can I ask about how much it costs in supplies? Is this something any average Joe should be able to do?

 

As someone who looks at car paint all day everyday for work, I think it's looks damn good! You wouldn't believe some of the "professional" repairs I've seen people pay a thousand of dollars for that look like they forgot to sand down and sprayed with a rattled can. Nice work and cool color choice.

thanks guys ill answer a some specific questions later when i feel better but i have a killer headache from painting

a quick answer though is i have about 250 in paint and clear and this is my first time spraying a car except for when we primered it 3 years ago

the paint and clear kit cost me around 250 bucks + another 150 bucks for epoxy primer

i used summit racing epoxy primer , and ukrem base and clear , theres prolly another 100-200 in misc supplies , i.e tape body filler sand paper etc

and i still have to buy the supplies to wetsand and buff the car


i was a total noob when it came to painting cars this is the first car i have ever done a base/clearcoat on , if i can do it anyone can do it


if ur going to spray a car spend the money and get urself a proper respirator, i didnt and the paint fumes realy got to me and ive been feeling like crap for 2 days now

 

left the car out int he sun today , plan to start buffing it out tommorow afternoon wish i had a better camera as the camera on my cellphone really doesnt capture how good it looks. cant wait to get it all buffed out and the wheels back on it

15x3.75's and 15x8's , i also have a set of 15x10s for the rear

 

Looks great.
Very important , NO wax of any kind for at "least" a month. Even check the car wash soap to make sure there's no wax in it. Detailers also should be checked.Solvents will be trapped under wax. The paint needs time to cure.
I went 3 months with mine, then only synthetic polymers from there and never looked back.

 

compound and polish for the buffing should be fine though right?

Compound and polish should be total synthetic. Synthetic will at least breath.
It should say it right on the bottle or can.


Maguire's actually has a tech. line you can call. I've done it and I like there products. I've been using them for over 9 years . All synthetics.


I would do a little more research on the subject or a few more reply's concerning it before doing it.

Are you putting new window moulding on? You got paint all over it.

 

yes all new seals everywere, and i purposlet painted the metal trim around the rear hatch glass the body color

 

It looks pretty damn cool to me. I think I saw slight orange peel in one of your pictures, but you can find decent or terrible orange peel on cars coming out of most factories on newer cars. I'm about to paint mine in a few weeks and I'm going for the ultra blue metallic. When I read what you paid for paint, I am shocked because that looks like good quality paint. I have been quoted low end $400 high end $600 for the paint I'm going to use. Did you buy it local? The paint I'm quoted on is the 2nd best quality the place has which I'm hoping will hold up for a long time. I'm using $20 a can primer from the place as well.

It wouldn't hurt to get more quotes. I'm looking for the factory Ultra Blue Metallic color but I didn't see it on their website. But I'm sure they have it it's just buried in all those different color options.haha

I think I'm at $500 total for clear and paint for my lowest bid using the 2nd best quality paint from some place around here. It is a 2 part and the best one they have is a 1 part paint but it's another $100-120 for that.

 

Nice color.. I am thinking smoked headlight covers will look killer on it.
