Did you put the new material on your self? If so how did you do it and what did you use?

James-did it myself and used a nice leather-grain vinyl w/cloth backing. I wrote a step-by-step procedure for the entire process, including pics. Am working on getting that uploaded to the 'net-either to my FTP site or possibly another "host". Will reply back here with the link once it's up; it shouldn't take much longer.

Very nice - you should submit your article to the "Technical Articles" section...

Wishmaster: I sent the article to Dirk, as well as two other 3rdgen sites. Hopefully it will be posted on one of the Tech boards soon...

Regardless, I'll e-mail you a copy of it this week. I think once you read through the procedure and check out the pictures you'll find that it's not very difficult. I think you'd get alot more satisfaction from doing it yourself but I'd consider doing them for you.

3GC, Wishmaster and IROC_Z28: you've got mail (door panel resto procedures). Let me know if you have any trouble opening the file.

3GC: nice web site! Please feel free to convert the Word document I sent you to HTML so that others can easily view it from your site. Thanks!

Hey Austin, I got your zip and it opened up just fine, I really apreciate you sending me the file but I got one question.....what or should I say how did you re-fasten the strip going down the middle of the panel? It doesnt say anything about that in your instructions. Let me know and thanks again.

You can re-sew it (which I didn't do because I don't access to an industrial type machine), carefully glue it down or just leave it like it is. After I glued the new fabric down (making sure I tucked enough under the seam), this trim piece layed down nicely on top of the new fabric. You can't really tell it's not re-sewn, especially if you don't cut the top threads of the trim piece-(ONLY cut the threads on the back of the panel, and only cut the top half of the threads), and make sure you pull it tight so that it won't sag. You could also carefully glue it down on top of the new fabric if you wanted to do it that way. The adhesive I used sticks like super-glue, so that ought to work ok. It would be a real b*tch to try sew it by hand through the fabric, foam backing and hardboard backing. This trim piece really serves no purpose other than to cover up the seam between the top and bottom halves. And I couldn't talk the wife into sewing for me either.

Thanks for the complement Tom K.

Thanks for taking the time to put the article on your site 3GC. It must've been a pain in the **** with all the pictures, etc., but I appreciate the effort!
