Paint prep >>stripping
Paint prep >>stripping
It is bad enough that I have to pull the engine and everything thing else out of the engine compartment, but trying to sand the 80 layers of rattle can paint the previous owners laid down is not working for ****. I am looking for something I can lay out through a gun, something very stout. Any ideas? Aircraft remover! Or...?
Assuming there is something capable of stripping this stuff, what would be the proper procedure being I hand the car over to the paint shop? Sand at 80 grit, etching primer, sand at xxx grit, lay high build, cut at xxx grit. Please offer advice for the xxx areas and if I have this totally wrong, please tell me I am a dumb-head.
Much appreciated!

there is a paint stripper attachment that is for a drill that takes it down to bare metal fast
as far as priming, 400 should be the highest you should go, i did my car, handed it over to the shop with a 400 wetsand on the final coat of primer and the car came out beautiful

i was just about to post some simular questions myself
i seen and used 3m sanding disk in the past for other things but do you think they'd be good for stripping a car as well
ok would it be better if a car was/ is totaly stripped b 4 sending out for paint or is just sanding down a layer good enough???

aircraft paint stripper is so evil **** but it will do the job. i have never heard of anyone spraying it on. just watch out because that stuff will burn the crap out of your skin. the 3m product mention above also works very well.
i work at a body shop (3 years) and we don't sand between etch prime and high build. there really is no need to. we always final sand the primer with 600 grit paper. i did that with my car and it looks great.

I would use that aircraft stripper but i would not spray it.Just get a paint brush goes on pretty fast. But your etch primmer Like heavy_chevy29 said no need to prime the etching primmer.Spray your high build primer right after u but the etching on. The first coat u can sand down with anything starting at 180 ( thats what i use) than one more coat of primmer than than sand that down with 400 to 600. I use 400 cuzi go over it again with sealer so 400 (wet) the sealer will fill in the very very little scratchs. u don't want to put a ton of coats of primmer on all at once.

if you use a chemical stripper your going to have to be 100% sure you washed it all off super good or you paint will just peal off when you spray it.
i would just stick with air tools and sand paper 80 grit or get some 3m roloc wheels on a die grinder that works well too.
