SAGGING DOORS!! HELP!!

Ive run across a problem. The doors to my 86 Iroc are saggin ugly! I just took my car in to get painted and they told me to buy them some new door hinges so it doesnt scrape the new paint job. I went to chevy & they are selling at $174 a door!!NOT INCLUDING TAX & they have to special order them! I dont want to get them from a junk yard because most junked cars they would be saggin already or if not they would probably make me purchase the whole door rather than just that piece. Is there a way to fix the door hinges rather than buy new ones? PLEASE HELP QUICKLY!

Well, ask your boys there if they can replace the bushing for the hinges. If they can then that is bunches cheaper than replacing hinges. If they can't (and they couldn't on my doors) you'll have to get new hinges. Call up Dal at VanDevere Pontiac and get them from him. Mention that you got his name from the internet for dealer discount. When I got mine it cost almost $160 for both doors, plus whatever it cost for welding them in.

Good luck,
Steve

The pin kit is available from autozone ,pep boys,,etc. It's made by HELP,,,it's like $5 a side,, it's a pin & 2 bushings for the lower hinge (which is the usual culprit with suck a heavy door)
It's a mild pain in the -ss to put in

My TA had the same problem with the door sagging. I picked up the lower hinge pins and bushings and roller and replaced them myself. Getting the old pin was a difficult task due to the limited space until I bought a cold chisel and helped them out. The next difficult task is getting the damn spring back in place. Someone had mentioned using a door spring compressor, however I have not been able to find one. I was able to finally get the spring in place by using a screw driver... After all said and done I found that if the bushings are not worn out and the roller is still good, you can simply loosen the 3 bolts on the upper hinge to the body and move the door up a bit and re-bolt it in proper place...

here's the quick and easy way...it's worked wonders for me.

Take your jack and stick a piece of 2x4 under the door...jack up the 2x4 to bend the hinges and bend them so the door won't rub anymore...since you're going to replace the hinges anyways you might as well try it.
