Fitting a Cowl Hood

Hi everybody, I just recently purchased a 2" fiberglass cowl hood from usbody.com and I am having a bit of a problem with it lining up in the front. I did rear end my friend and I am guessing it bent my fenders down a little or the fender supports/brackets? The only part that doesn't line up is the top of the hood and the top of the fenders, its not even(the very front). Right now the hood sits above the fenders about an inch on one side and a half inch on the other side in the front. Is there something I can do? Maybe us some shims or something? Or am I going to have to send the hood back?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Tony

So its higher in teh very front of the hood? Try adjusting your latch assembly on teh car down inot the little well more. the painter took mine off SO the underside of the hood could be painted easier and he didnt get it back down all teh way to where i had it so teh hood sticks up about a 1/4" in teh very front. Try that first. ANd isnt a 2" a tad small?

Fiberglass is notorious for moving around due to temperature. If you look at the nose of a mid 70's vette you can see the rivets that hold the headlight buckets in, (they're imbedded in the glass)move the car indoors, and they go away. It maybe just a glass-thing. Fit the rear and try to pull the front down with the latch to get it to line up. It's important to get it to line up across the front. Once that is done the sides may not want to line up with the fenders. There were rubber spacers that you could get on the stock hood, you may be able to duplicate or use those. You may find thicker ones ina junkyard that you can use to "push" the hood up to the fender line. If all of that doesn't work, or for some reason you have to have it perfect, then it's time to go to the bondo can and do a little fine tuning. Truthfully, this is why glass and carbon parts are used on race cars where esthetics (spl) are not as important, it's also the reason that most show cars that have glass hoods, show the car with the hood in the up position, so they don't have deal with this problem. You can get it all straight but some hoods are so off that by the time you bondo everything into submission the glass hood is as heavy as the steel one.
