Should I clearcoat my freshly polished rims?

I just painted and polished my 90 IROC rims. They almost look like chrome. I am leaning towards clearcoating them, I know a little shine will be lost but the durability will be better. I don't want to have to polish them every weekend. Thoughts?

I think I remember hearing that if they are too shiny/smooth the clearcoat may not stick very well.

Clearcoating would be a very good idea in terms of durability and maintenance. you'll be able to wipe of any brakedust, dirt, roadgrime, etc. with just a swipe of a wet rag. My ROH are clearcoated and I love the way they look and how easy it is to just wipe off the brakedust and dirt.I have a spray bottle filled with about a 60/40 solution of water and glass cleaner. I just spray a light mist on the wheels and wipe off with a clean rag.

I would say dont do it unless you wanna keep doin it.you wont get the clear to stick well enough without going threw a full process of putting it on.it wont be like a factory applied clear coat, not even close.I think its baked on.not sure.If you use a good polish,it should protect them awhile.zymol makes a protective spray coating for wheels that works good and comes off with wheel cleaner.I am not saying it wont work, and it may even look good for awile, but I dont know if it will last, and may get real ugly.

Hey Rob.. do you have any pics of them? Ive been seriously considering having mine polished.

If you can find a pro to do it right I would have them clearcoated. Something like OEM would be great, it would save alot of maintenance. And the finish would last a long time.
