Opinions of adding 427 Stingray scoop to Bird

Found this 427 corvette stingray hood scoop replica $50 made of fiberglass, thought it would be a nice alternitive to adding a new hood for extra clearance, or just for functionality, its open in front and rear, think it would look horrible on a Firebird/Trans am?

How much of a consern do you think it would be if it was driven in the rain, as the car would be a daily driver?

Id leave the scoop off if it was my daily driver. That style scoop (when opened in the front) funnels rain water right onto the top of your motor/distributor. Nothing worse that stalling your car out every time it rains hard because you cracked/ruined your ditributor cap or shorted out your wiring..Ran a snorkel scoop on my daily driver back in high school, biggest mistake I made. Always had to carry a garbage bag and rubber bands with me in case it rained or snowed.

That looks somewhat similiar to the L88 hood, right?

I don't really like it, but hey, you can't beat that price.

I have a add on stinger scoop on my camaro. I love it!! Here's a pic...

crazyn8... They dont funnel water in. Cut a 12-16" dai. hole above your carb, put scoop on, and the cut out hole will be way back in the back of the scoop. Mines been this away since june, and not a drop of water has touched my air cleaner, or even got in my air pan

MaxxMitchell... Forgot to look to see if you was carbed or not, but if you are, made up an air pan that fits on the bottom of the air cleaner, and seals against the bottom of the hood, and have some of the air filter and top of cleaner sticking through the hole.

I knew I was gonna pick up a glass hood later so I bought a cheaper abs plastic scoop (one that sticks one with double sided tape) and drilled holes around the side flange and into my hood, and rivited to me hood.

I can't say how it would look on a bird, but I like how it looks on my camaro. My fav scoop designs are the 67 vette 427 stinger, L-88 cowl, and ram air II

Here's a pic of the hole I cut in the hood and the cold air sealed air pan I made....

As far as runnning water straight into the engine bay.............The SS hood has practically the same design, and it works fine for me..........

It will be carbed, but i think this might be the route ill take now, so that i dont have to worry about choking my engine from an aircleaner thats too thin.

I will probly go to the scrap yard or try and find another hood to do this on so that i dont cut up my nice on on the car now.

Looks pretty killer, wonder what it ill look like with black paint
