lets see some budget camaro's
i just wanted to see what some people do with very littel money. its nice to see people bringing there camaros back to life. right now i dont have the money to do a lot of work to my berlinetta. but i'll get her going soon. thanks guys
*Edit - didnt give a breakdown of cost so decided to edit the post ...
Here's my 89 Camaro IROC-Z. I bought this car specifically for a "Budget Drift Project" for the powerslideways website. I wanted to show people that its possible to build a solid domestic drifting car for $5000. I bought the car in Jan of 2004 for $2500 with 113K miles. It was a little more than I wanted to pay for a "budget" project, but it was top model and good condition so I went for it. The car was a white hardtop with tan interior, and gold inset 16" IROC Wheels. It came with a L98, 700R4 trans, 4 wheel disks, B/W 9 bolt rear w/ PBR's, and the FE2 suspension. Here's what the car came with (free stuff):
Dual K&N Filters
Borla XS Exhaust
B&M Megashifter
Here's what I've done so far:
PPG Paint, special mix we called GangGreen (DIY) - $285
Grant GT SteeringWheel (with adapter and horn button) - $60
Sylvania Silverstar Hologen replacements (all 4) - $80
TH350-C Transmission w/ fresh rebuild and converter - $275
TH350 conversion parts (Hurst,Spohn, etc) - $225
MSD 8.5" Sparkplug Wires - $60
MSD Cap and Rotor Kit - $25
Hypertech 180 degree thermostat - $15
Hypertech 180 degree fan switch - $50
Performance Aluminum Radiator - $125
Spohn Steel Adjustable Panhard Bar - $115
Misc Stickers and Decals and stuff - $35
Parts Total - $1350
Cost of the Car - $2500
--------------------
Grand Total - $3850
Some of that stuff I got jobber price, some of it was retail. I didnt include shipping for some items since I live in Hawaii and its kinda expensive. I didnt include wear and tear stuff like fluids, gaskets, spark plugs, brake pads, or tires. I also kinda cheated because those are not the wheels that came with the car, I slapped on a nicer set I had for this picture.

Up next is a complete overhaul of the suspension and chassis. I really hope I dont go over the $5000 mark but it might happen.
Thanks for the props crazy3rdgen.

Well it al depends on what kind of a budget you have
i'm actually on a fairly tight budget yet have managed to spend i believe last time i added up all the receipts about 9k in parts and stuff and with a 2300 dollar price i paid for the car i'm well over 10k and i have just minorly gotten into motor and have another 1000 in interior here this month.
This is with my old camera so you cant see any of the ghost work, got better ones but none on my jump drive so that'll have to do, to give you a little break down though
Body mods (hood, spoiler, new front gfx, new front bumper) 1500
Paint and body work=3k

Here's Mine.......
I bought this 87 IROC last March from the classifieds here on TGO. So far, I have $1100 into it, including the original pruchase price of the car. I have installed two new tires, and a cat back exhaust.
Next, I plan on installing a mildly modded 350, LS1 front brakes, PBR rear brakes, 3.42 gears, and a S10 converter, lowering springs, and Illumina struts. I have almost all of the parts, and when complete, I will still have less than $3000 in it. Just have to wait and find deals. Patience pays.
Budget rides rule!

Im looking at about 12k into mine so far
I paid 2600 for the car origanally
2600 for the new rims
1000 in my new 350
260 for tinted windows
50 for steering wheel
350 for cd player
70 for 6x9's
50 for 4x6's
around 300 for exhaust + 50 for new tip after I broke one
150 for stereo wiring
this is just the stuff I could think of off my head I got all the stuff wrote down at home. But all the money has been spent of a period of time Ive worked on this car since I was 16 with a tight budget, but its been well worth it the only reason the car is getting painted and got rims is because I wrecked my motorcycle if that hadnt happened not much would of been done do to my small budget.

not a camaro (hope firebirds are okay...), but heres my "budget" firebird.....
Bought the car for 2500 bucks (89 formula), has a carburated 350 from a 70's truck, weiand intake, edelbrock 600cfm carb, 700R4, slightly used edelbrock tes headers in the back seat, single flowmaster 40 series muffler
ended up having to pay 150 to get it trailerd down to worcester
around 650 bucks to: buy + install fuel pressure regulator, re-wire part of the charging system, fix the gauges that werent working, tune the carb, hardwire the fuel pump
about 75 bucks for plugs, wires, air filter, misc other little things
2500
150
650
75
--------
3375$ total
i GUESS its not as bad as it seems, though i'm still pissed at the guy i bought it from cause he obiosuly knew what was wrong with it, i trusted him, and unfortunatly he either seriously thought that although some of the stuff wasnt working 100% correctly it would run and drive fine without much work or he was a complete ***** and assured me that he just didnt have any time to work on it and really knew what needed to be done and stuff...my fault though for trusting what he said :-/
I still cant drive the car......first radiator blew up, bought one from a junkyard for 50 bucks (tack on another 50 to that total), now its leaking, so i've gotta get a new one (130 or so, add that on now)
so I'm at around 3500 and i'll have a car that needs a new engine and who knows what else.....
luckily i found a good deal on a 12,000 mile Goodwrench 350 (750 bucks, carb to pan) and my transmission seems to be doing OK....

Ah well

oh, pardon the clutter in that pic....garage is still under construction, although much further along. Cant wait to have a place to really work on the car out of the cold :-D
This pic is from the morning I finally got the car (long story short, the guy had only had the car a few days and had to wait for the new title to come from the RMV.....that shoulda been my first sign to be more careful, having to wait 3 weeks after test driving / looking at the car)
Oh how excited i was that morning....little did i know that I'd be spending the next few months not driving the car, but swearing at it. I just hope that eventually i'll be able to drive it without worrying so much about whast gonna happen next, LOL

1991 Z28-Got it back in '97 and it was in suprisingly in great overall condition w/115K miles, got through a loan, kinda way overpaid for it at $8900 w/intrest sp?(Z was 4 sale at a used car lot for $6k ) but this loan company was the only one that would finance me.I just replaced teh engine with a 250hp 350 crate engine (w/26k miles)from my brother's car for $300
.I had a MAC exhaust system(originally $700)from one of my previous 3rdgens put in.I had replaced the TPI runner tubes with the set from SLP-$200.I just replaced all of the rotors, wheel bearings, and shocks/struts,$528 total. The only other real money that I spent on it was for routine maintenance. This will be my project car when I get a new car next year.Pics in sig....

Heres mine...
After the cost of the car itself, its got about $2500 cdn in it. That includes the 350, new rad, BW T10 4-speed, Holley 4bbl, Edelbrock intake, headers, CD/MP3 player, new BFG Radial TA rubber, and some Infinity 6x9s.
Come spring, add about $500 or so to that for a new exhaust system. Of course theres also all the odds and ends and little fixes that cost something too. I think its going pretty good for how much its cost to-date.

This car was budget. I bought it I was like 17 for $4500 Canadian dollars.
Everything I got cheap.
Paint was $1000 Canadian
Wheels with used rubber I got for $900 Can
headers, high flow cats, 3" flowmaster: $700 Can brand new
etc, etc, etc
basically everything done to the car was pure bargain prices and most work was done by myself. Its nothing spectacular for the money, but man did it ever get alot of looks. Youd think I was driving a $150,000 car.
