leagal issues involving engine cleaning at self car washes
recently I power washed my engine at the car wash for the first time, with no environmental guilt. because I used SIMPLE GREEN* not that poisonous GUNK* ****,and it's an effort to detect & fix leaks that leave much more oil than a single cleaning and it's mosly just dirt from the road mixed with the oil overspray.the real problem is california still enriches the gas with MBTE.so why am I concerned about the law? I heard that you can get f#cked with hard fines if you get caught doing it. now,...if there is a sign posted(which I must have not noticed) that reads: "NO ENGINE DEGREASING", does that mean that mean that the power washer can be used, but not with degreaser?if thats the case then I see no problem as it still cleans good enough without it. If it means no cleaning under the hood period, that would be gay, think of all the brake dust soot, car pollution in general, where does all the tire tread go?cleaning a little grime off the old mill doesn't seem like a big deal, as long as other contaminates aren't added, like GUNK* & GREASE LIGHTNING engine degreasers.anyone know the laws?

Just do like most people around here do go to the car wash late at night when nobody else is around and clean your engine.
(of course I don't do that)

Here in the San Fernando Valley, the coin operated car washes have an extra cost "engine degreaser" wand that you spray on your engine, then plunk in the quarters for the regular power spray wash. So, it must be legal still in coin operated car washes. And the reason it is, probably is for the same reason we can steam clean disgusting greay, oily busses at work. The wash rack has what is called a "clarifier" which traps the grease/oil and then it is pumped out later by sludge trucks that pick up the crap and haul it away and make some kind of money off the deal as well.
Use the coin wash.....if it was not legal, they wouldn't have the degrease wands.
