I have been looking at various cars that have been droped. What is the better look, 1.25" or 2"? How much does this cost and what parts are needed besides new springs? Thanks guys

 

The best thing that could be done to any car would be to drop it, or even better, SLAM IT!!!! I even saw a '99 mustang look good just because it was slammed. Remember, when you lower your ride, the handling will change. It will be more responsive, and handle better. The lower, the better. But there are always downfalls.

As for which looks better, that's a subjective term. As for what parts are needed besides springs:

If you're going for a really drastic drop, dropped spindles and an adjustable panhard rod would help keep your suspension geometry correct. Some new shocks would help keep your undercarriage from scraping from every bump in case yours are feeling their age.

If you're not, springs are all you really need for a drop...

As for downfalls, I don't know of any other than having to take driveways at an angle and watching for those intersections that tend to get you airborne.

 

Lowering isn't an option, its a must!!!!
I have lowered a few cars in the past by cutting the springs and that's not the way too go! I thought springs wouldn't give me enough drop but I have seen a lot of cars that look great posted here. I went for a drop of 2"(spindles) in front and 1 1/2(springs) in back.

check out the new GM high tech performance magazine, there is a spring kit that is adjustable in there!!

As for your questions, most springs kits are 1 1/2, they can just go in with no other parts, but while your at it u may as well slap in some new ball joints. My spindles cost me $450 Canadian and the springs were 175.

I would go for a 2/3 drop. I've got that drop and I get lots of comments on it.

 

2/3? 2/3" or 2" and 3"...what was the total cost?

 

ahhhhh!! yes,finally someone who agrees that there is a way to seriously lower an F-body without messing up the ride. where did you find those drop spindles? did you only use spindles to lower the front? if so,who sells springs for just the rear? did the rear stay level to the front when you dropped it?

 

forgot to ask, how do you jack up the front once its lowered? or is DIY work out of the question after it's dropped?

 

I got the spindles and springs from Belltech.
That's all u need to get a 2" direct drop in the front.
Measure your wheel gap and see
what is appropriate for you. I now have a
gap of about an inch. The rear dropped about 1 1/2"
just with springs.

Getting under the car is a bit of a pain and
the front air deflector always hits but it looks right!

Forgot one important detail about spindles,
They will not work with 1LE brakes!
