but is that legal in anystates? where do you find that info out at? wouldnt it not matter anyway as the light still should shine thru it anyway?
Nightshades is for "off road use only".So i guess that makes it illegal everywhere.I still used it on my taillights though.Have been driving around with them tinted for well over 12 years. Not one ticket, but i did get pulled over ONCE for "dim" tailights.Got a warning to fix it.So i installed xenons bulbs, problem solved.

hey steve...if we meet up sometime, my stock z28 grids are in great condition. since your gonna tamper with your nice ones anyways, do you want to just trade for mine? i really like those red ones, and i have been thinking about doing it for a while.
if u just spent a little time buffing them after you blacked out the other part...think about it.

my car is white, and while i think that the red turn signals look cool, the amber really kinda breaks up the white i have. i actually kept all my amber lights (side markers and front turn signals) and polished them and waxed them. they look BRAND NEW! so i did this to the back as well. here is a picture after about 8 hours of work (on the pair, not just this one)

I know what your talking about, with the amber on a white car and all. It does look nice. How did you polish them? Mine look like crap, all fuzzy and little nicks and stuff.

wet sand 400, 600, 1000, rubbing compound, polishing compound, then i masked off the lights and painted the grid (cause that paint will come off when you wetsand) and then after that i waxed them.
once you start, don't stop though. it takes time too. it'll get really cloudy when you start but by the time your done with the polishing compound, it looks incredible. you can use the 400 grit to knock the letters down too so they're not there anymore.

Just an FYI...you can convert the tail lights to blink the brake lights with a trailer conversion kit. Basicly they take a separate amber blinker set-up and convert it to a brake/blinker set-up. The outer brake light would become the blinker. The amber light would be unused--good if you want to paint it black.

I nominate this for a sticky, It would save a lot of hassle and has most of the ones I've ever seen here.

I like the all red except for one thing. I dont like the part that was black before being painted red (where there are no lights). and also, im not sure how the reverse lights would work.

I say leave them the way the are...with the amber color in it, but you could paint the black inner part beside the plate the same color as your car, like this...
OK, i painted the pass side tail light from the inside and the drivers side from the outside. the pass side one looks foggy, and the other looks good but kinda has orange peel !!
i tried wet sanding the orange peel, but wound up sanding everything off !
can you wet sand spray paint??
ill try to get pics!!

My Tail light modification.
I went with the early camaro theme the dual round tails. This was a fairly simple modification, Everyone that has seen them goes crazy over them. So Far they have been one of the most noticed changes, and one of the most liked.
if you have any questions I can guide you through the build

it shines through just as well as the stock. i did mine last week with testors transluscent candy apple red. cost me a total of 3 bucks and an hour (take your time peeling the lenses apart) of my time before they were back on the car looking great. i'm going to open them up again and do another coat and some wetsanding, then i'm done. probably the best "bang for your buck and effort" tail mod.
I think that mod with LED bulbs would be about as good as it could get if they were inside the lenses, the ambers were deleted off of them, and had slightly tighter groupings with the LED's.
I also liked the guy with the solid red photoshop all across. If I had a red car I would do that definitely. I don't think a cop would mess with you unless he was WATCHING you reverse at night.
