nightshades I think is legal too, becasue it sorta disappears when the lights turn on. As for me....I used black spray-paint with some clearcoat on top, buffed the hell out of them, and volia

Here is an update: I went to the bodyshop and I took the old tail-lights off and put them up the new ones then I cleaned and repainted the bezels with some chrome paint on the inside, look pretty good to me
Bottom lights are the new ones!

i was working on a set of tail lights where everything was blacked out with nightshades minus the reverse lights. I looked pretty nice. I made the lights too dark and did not spray it very well either. They also have major cracks now so i've considered them a failure. I need to get another set soon. Does anyone have the hookup at a shop that will professionally tint my tails ?

Steve, what did you use to do the red over the amber turn signals? I would like to do that to mine as well, and how did you do that? Thanks.

they werent that bad to begin with, but just some polishing and buffing did the trick (although I also think being surrounded by black brings it out as well).

you can turn it red instead and you'll have tails like the firebirds some didn't have amber in the rear. Well the newer ones didnt anyway.

I used 1605 Testors Candy Apple Red paint...its model paint

remove the tailight, clean the lens (i used lighter fluid)...tape everything up and start shooting. Did 1 coat let dry for 5-10 mins then applyed 2 more i think until it matches the other red sections...may take 3 may take 5 depends. And that was all i did, I kinda wish i woulda sprayed a clear coat afterwards but it still looks good. I did this mod in december and i cant rub the paint off if i try its on there pretty good.

after inspection next month...that section is getting tinted black

i really dont think cops will even notice that its the turn signal till you see me turn..and ill either put LED bulbs in there or just see how bright it is with normal bulbs.

No one around even knows i painted the amber section red...it looks factory.

Camaroguy that is the best tail light mod I've seen yet! Makes it look more like a 2nd gen's rear! The Hawk's 5 inch ducktail makes it look SLEEK and old school.

Did you decide to use the non-grid style tail lights for a reason? I am now thinking about doing this to my grids and hooking up my brake lights to double as blinkers, and black out the top and bottom of the reverse lights so only the middle on is left... or maybe just leave the bottom one.

Did you just paint the inside of the glass, or did you paint the outside of it as well? Thanks

Sorry to say dan but I dont see much of a difference. You could have the same results with a wax as polishes arent made to simply apply and remove.

Not if each light is the appropriate color turn signals (amber) brake lights (red) reverse lights (white).

Also I think this is one the best custome jobs I have seen.
