Stripping paint on wheels via aircraft stripper
ok well we tried a coat (after already stripping the clear coat using something different) and we waited 40 mins with not so impressive results.. i mean i got a little off but i had expected more from this kind of product (not to mention the health hazard
). so i was curious as too how think you guys puts yours on and how long you let it sit. maybe even how much you used?

When I use it, I only let it sit max 30 min, after that it starts drying and harding back up. after about 20 min Ill usuallly use a wire brush not a drill one, and go over to get the majority off, then put another coat of paint stripper on.

I never let it sit over 10-15 minutes. Works fine for me! Are you talking about the one in the spray can or the one with the screw-on cap? The spray can stripper doesn't give me very good results. I use the one with the screw on cap and apply it with an old paint brush.

When I tried it a few weeks ago, it didn't look like it took anything off at all. I tried polishing a spot that I knew had clear coat on it before, and it started to shine. It had stripped it... just didn't really look like it did.

You guys are talking about the jelly like stripper correct? If so the trick to getting that stuff to work is applying it in generous amounts more like globing it on not brushing it. A thin coat will do nothing, how it works is when applied correctly the air dries the outer part of the stripper forming an air tight seal, the vapors then go to work under the dry "skin" and eat away the clearcoat or paint that you wish to remove. worked great for me, you might need to do two applications depending on the complexities of the wheel you are stripping.

I globbed it on and it seemed like by the time I was done going around the wheel.. the clear was crinkled and ready to come off. Perhaps I was using something different.. weird.

Just now redoing the wheels on my old Camaro. Went to Walmart and got some stripper that has a spray bottle with it, not expensive. Spray it on, wait 20 minutes or so, hit it with the power washer. (wear protective clothes, nasty) Then use some steel wool and stripper to clean it real good, wipe with laquer thinner. Prime and paint. Tried sand blast, life's too short for that.
