New paint w/ a touch of pearl...
New paint w/ a touch of pearl...
I was very lucky and ran into a local German who happens to own a few thirdgens who paints. I will keep it black, with pearl but cant decide what color pearl. Ive seen black with dark blue pearl, but I think that a silver-metalic look would look good with the silver Z28 logos, chrome rims and tailpipes. I know this is an opinion question, but I want the input. Or maybe a site where I can see paint jobs like this?

Greg, I my opinion I would keep the pearl out of the black paint. I have seen black cars with pearl in them and they look very dark gray or muddy black to me. I have also seen metallic black and really don't like that either. If you are going to keep the car black then stick to a good base coat / clear coat and just plain black. In my opinion a jet-black car is awesome to look at, a nightmare to keep looking nice, but awesome to see.
Obviously it is your car so do what makes you happy.
Just my opinion, and good luck with the paint job.

I agree with chuck. Pearl over black winds up looking pretty bad. What I have seen though, is black with colored mica. You should experiment with the mica in the paint and in the clear in different quantities. I have orange mica in the red on my IROC, but I didn't use nearly enough, so it's only noticable in bright sunlight. In bright sunlight, the car really takes on an orange hue on the reflecting surfaces. I've seen black with purple mica and it looked real good.

There is a guy on this board that has a
black IROC-Z with Red pearl. It looks sick!
This is definetly the color I will go with
when it comes time to repaint-

Youve all given me more to think about, but ive been doing a lot of thinking without seeing what the paint would look like. I hate to spend this much money on something when I dont know what the finished product will look like. Ive been looking high and low for sites that might have these paint schemes but have had no luck. Does anyone have someplace to look?

In my opinion you must see the color on a car before you decide. It took me 3 months to pick a color from my convertible. I went to every car show and dealer I could find until I found the color I was looking for. Seeing a picture (color) on the web is not the same as seeing it in person. Sorry I was not more help.
