My Baer 14" 6S front brake upgrade.

I have been meaning to make a thread in here about the brake upgrade I put together over the spring.

I bought these front brake caliper, brackets, and rotors from a member here used from a project that changed direction. I already had a Baer track plus set up with polished two piston PBR calipers and two piece 13" rotors, so the upgrade to the Baer 6S mono-block caliper and two piece 14" front rotor was a pretty easy project.

So easy to bolt together, but I'm kinda a stickler on the details and I couldn't have that yellowed looking clear anodize up front with the polished rear calipers so this is where the project, became more of a project than just hanging parts...

I stripped the 6S Calipers down for polishing

So the aircraft stripper removed the baked on paint recessed in the Baer script, but doesn't touch the anodizing on the billet aluminum. So the next step:

Oven cleaner! Oven cleaner will remove anodizing, but its a tricky process to remove it without it etching the aluminum below.

Re: My Baer 14" 6S front brake upgrade.

Here is the final finished product. I'm totally stoked with how they turned out. Baer no longer offered a polished caliper option, so I can say that these are the only ones out there!

Thank you! I honestly don't remember back spacing specs and such. Been over 10 years since I bought these. 18x9 and 18x10 is really all I can tell you without pulling them off and measuring. Make me an offer on them and maybe I'll just sell these to you

That looks awesome ... I'd be interested to know how it goes with upkeep/polishing down the road

Re: My Baer 14" 6S front brake upgrade.

I'd be interested in getting the details on the hub/spindle/bracketry for this setup up. I see you had an existing Baer kit already, is that off the shelf stuff or proprietary from Baer?

edit: Really looks good too.

Well I expect that the upkeep will be about that same as the old set up see how they were both polished. My original track+ kit I have had since 2005, and have only seriously polished them one time. But basically any polishing I do is hand polishing through the wheels, and that has worked well enough to still bring home some 1st place trophies in shows.

I can say that I had a rock? jump up between the caliper and the wheel, and leave a nice scratch on the inside of the wheel.

Not much details for me to provide. The original kit I used was from Baer and they supplied, everything... spindles, hubs, bearings, fastners, hoses etc. I can say that we took all my old stuff and my best friend made his own kit to install that on his 89 IROC. Modified the spindle, made adapters, and cut down the rotors for hubs on his.
