with a 8.5 wide rim i should really go for a 245 without bulg but you can d0 225..i had a 215 on it but that was a mistake..so i got new ones.....8 wide you can easily do 225 no problem with fitment....well if you tell them you want the rim to fit your car..usually they come in the set offset....for my rims its a fwd rim only in 20's they are rwd...so i did the fwd with a space/adapter

225/40/18 and 265/35/18 are the exact same over all height.. 25.7 inches tall (i think)

i did that to have a staggered package

the 225/35/20 are just high enough to clear the fenders when the inner fenders are removed so its cool

when you start going up in rim size you have to go down in the 2nd number of the tire size...

225-in millemetres *width of the tire*
35-% of the width of the tire
20-size of the rim

example..

stock iroc size..

245/50/16 is the same height as 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 (with little varience.. .7 inches max)

i work at a tire shop..so this is something i need to know about to perform my daily routines...

I'm running 245/40/18 fronts and I was able to eliminate any rubbing (even at full lock) by adjusting my ride height. Started it off with the fenderwells resting on the tire and raised it up little by little until it was the lowest possible without rubbing. Took a while to get it perfect (driving around, checking, changing, etc). This is one of the reasons I really like the spring pertches (aka weight jacks), you can set the ride height. Then once I set the fronts, I set the rear to match (I dont like a raked look when slammed, I like evenly slammed front and rear). I dont know exactly how much lower it is than stock, but its really low. Looks almost exactly the same as SlammedZ's stance, maybe 1/4 inch difference.

Anyone got some measurements of stock height? I'll try to get some tomorrow from a different car. I also got the camera now, so should have some pics by tomorrow.

it feels like I am practically riding on my bumpstops.

what's the link to your page, pwdbychevy?

I think there is a difference in our GFX design... it would probably be best to measure to the transmission mount, or something that's part of the chassis that's consistent from year to year and bird/maro

The silver stars are probably brighter and the box recalibrates my speedometer since I have 3.73 gears.

can that not be done with the computer directly? I didn't realize you had to get a specific box to do that...

i don't mean to get off the subject but it's the easiest way to recalibrate your speedo. if you burn your own chips like i do, you can get close but it's not dead on plus you might run into stalling problems. do a search in the tranny and drivetrain section for dakota box or sgi5.

Well I couldnt get any shots on level ground to show the stance and ground clearance, my only flat stall is full. My carport is raised compared to the sidewalk so it shows the chassis clearance real good. I'm currently re-doing the front suspension on my 89IROC and its in pieces. But anyway, I did snap a teaser pic of the 91Z28 out in the driveway. Didnt take too many pics because the car is sitting on an uneven incline, kinda screws up the stance. I figgure when the space is open I'll take some real pics with the tape measure and stuff.

And here's a pic of it sitting next to my 92B4C with stock springs (I think). Remember, these are sitting on an uneven incline so probably a bad idea to even be taking pics regarding stance ... here goes anyway.

Yup, I picked up that B4C for $1500. I've been driving it to work while messing on these other two (doing suspension on the IROC and T56 swap on the Z28). I'm gonna fully restore the B4C to factory stock perfect condition and completely polish the TPI, then I'm gonna sell it and use the profits on my motor project. I'm a lucky guy!! right place at the right time.

i think your sitting around the same height as him fast 83 the 83 ground effects are like 2 - 2 1/2 inches longer i believe. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. I'll compare the 3 tomorrow.

to measure properly you really need a common point of measurement... like the floorpan or something.

ya its true usin a frame is usually a good way to measure..only thing is i got alot smaller tires them more camaros/firebirds..so i always will have about a 1'' lower then most...unless you do major suspension modes

and ya the ground effects are different..not a huge amount..but about 1/2 to an 1" difference

true, but having wheels in a overall diameter which is less than stock looks wrong, especially when the rims are 17's or more.

to you it may...but imo i find i still like it....ive never like any tire over a 40 series...i could do one but i would have to raise my car..and that just will not happen...but to each his own

I think his car looks fine... but personally I would just go with 245 40 18... since that's the overall diameter as well.
