sure... all you have to do is take the springs out and let it sit on the bump stops.

2" Drop practically puts the air dam under the radiator on the ground that should give you a good idea of a 3" drop. It will pretty much put the front valence on the ground.

This car Inatrax spring with half a coil cut off closest to 3" drop non-airbag as I can find.

This car looks really low! But the wheels makes your eyes play tricks.

Do not take off the air dam unless you like an overheating engine, that plastic peace is the primary source for the radiator to cool the coolant...

The air dam diverts air towards the radiator. Taking it off youre risking your car running hot and overheating. The fronts of our cars dont really have much "grille" area to let air flow through...

Without air bags there isn't a way to drop your car with conventional lowering springs. You would have to cut the springs to go that low. 3" would have the top of your tire hitting the fender well. 3" is too much unless you can raise the car to drive. I have a 2" drop with 26" tall tires and I can't imagine going lower and being able to drive the car.

Car: too many ...
I dont know exactly how low my 91Z28 is, but its pretty slammed. I wanted to keep the OEM style spring/dampener setup but also go extremely low so I went with ground control weight jacks for ride height adjustability, some custom made really short linear rate springs (will have to remove them and measure them when I do more suspension work), and some good dampeners (I went with koni reds). I do run 2 inch drop spindles in the front, but thats more to correct geometry than to get the ride height I wanted. You can achieve the same stance without the drop spindles. Both the front and rear wheels tuck in the fenders and I have no rubbing, even at full lock. I do have aftermarket wheels, but I tried to get really close to the OEM overall wheel and tire dimensions (I think I'm .03% off). I went with a fairly stiff spring rate and dampener setup in order to limit the suspension travel and prevent bottoming out. Ride comfort has definately suffered when compared to OEM, but I'm happy with it because it performs well. I built this car for high speed freeway racing and I'm really happy with this suspension setup when going 100+.

I dont have any pics of the new stance yet, sorry. Its been like this for 6 months too so I'm really slacking. My girl just ordered a digital camera so I should be able to snap a few pics within the next few days here. I'll try to remember to come back and post some pics for you.

hey slammed, I'm getting some new rims sometime soon, I was just wondering if you ever have any problems with those tires rubbing, or if you did any modifications to make them work properly...

what are the specs on the tires/rims..

well ScrapMaker i have not altered anything at all, they dont rub even when my wheels may be turned abit backin outta driveways and such its still fine, they are 225/35/18..my rims are 18x8.5 with a high offset..i think 42 maybe..i cant remember exactly what it is..but i got about a 2" adapter.so they sit very very good..like i dont rub doing a full turn and i can bag it and not catch my fender at all..

I have read somewhere that our cars can fit 245 40r18 with no alterations/rubbing... I wonder if the width is too much?

if my car was that low, I'd just hit the switches on my bags and go over... problem solved!

you could easily do the 245/40/18 all depends on your offset and how much you lower your car

if you wanna know tire specs on height differences and widths go to yahoo and type in miata tire calculator

so 35r18s are actually smaller in diameter than the stock tires... interesting...

what made you want to go with 35's versus 40's? (40s will give you nearly stock), 65r15 is what my bird came with.

well when i bought my car it had 225/50/15s on it and sat with stock springs..it looked 4x4 with the massive wheel well..so i never felt like going any bigger..and i lowered it like 5 years ago..and if i went any taller tire it woulda rubbed cause the overall hieght of the tire woulda been rubbing for sure...and i wanted to step up to an 18 cause i hated my 16si had. they werent big enough..and the tire i got is probably the max overall height i can do without rubbin..i could pull off a 245/35/18 in the rear maybe..up front not a chance

hrm, that website shows that it would be the same exact diamteter to have a 245/25r21

man I wonder what that would look like...? says sidewall would be 2.4 tall.

so in your car, what exactly rubs if you were to go with the 40r18's? is it the inner fender well?

I am puttin in airbags in the future, but not planning on modifying the core suspension components... just a simple spring-swap... the car can go pretty low as it is... you think a 245/40/18 will rub, and if so, should I lower the width, or the tire height to compensate?

discount tire's website claims our cars can fit 245/40/18 no problem.

i was running 265/35/18 on back and 225/40/18 up front with about a 2.5/3 inch drop...

and i wasnt rubbing..

im running 225/35/20 all around now, on bags with the back tucking 1/4 (almost) of the rim and the front tucking seriously too...

took out the inner fenders though..

8.5 inch rim as well

you actually had TALLER tires in the front? weird...

did you have have to go with 225's because you couldn't go low enough with the 245/265's?

the actually plastic rain gaurd thing in your fender well will rub...i come close but just miss it.....if your going a 3' drop with a 245/40r18 im pretty sure you will rub..you could pull off a 2.5 drop 3" would be iffy...you can always step down to a 245/35/18...its not to bad looking..and you could come closer to a 3" drop...i just dont wanna take out the inner liners cause i find it looks ugly with all those holes in the fender..no offence gerry lol...if you filled the holes it would look fine then

a 265 with bags more then likely you would be rubbin your strut toward..depending how wide your rim is

does the 225 35/18 make your speedo read high, or low? because mine already reads 15% low... that would kick *** if this helped it some.

also, do you have any pics of how wide the tire looks to the rest of the car? I'm betting that 245's would look monstrous under there anyhow... plus someday I might go so far as to alter the suspension so I can drag and drop.

cool! that's interesting, because my stock rims seem to come out more than yours... is that backspacing necessary so you don't rub? I don't know much about that area... how much do you have?

if you get 225 x 18", what is the best rim to get?

can you still squeeze 245's on there or willl they 'pooch' out too much? I've read that you want to match them fairly close to keep that 'square' looking footprint.

by 'best' I mean dimensions... not style
