Cleaning rims
I have the origonal 15x7 painted rims. The front rims are stained with the brake dust. I cant get it off just with soap and water. Any ideas on what I could use to cleam them with out hurting the paintor tires? Please help me. Thanks Gregg

get a rim cleaner from the parts store. I recently just bought the dupont teflon wheel cleaner which cleans rims, tires, and bugs and tar from the cars paint. I havent tried it yet but if i use it saturday ill get back to u on how it works. But get a good wheel cleaner if ur in a rush. Good companies are EAge 1, Meguiars, Dupont, and some others

Oh man.
I have white factory-clear coated RS 15x7 rims and they get coated with brake dust in about 2 or 3 days. I know it's because of my sticking caliper, but to clean it off, I bought 4 bottles of "Greased Lightning Blast" at Wal-Mart. It comes in an orange bottle and is really cheap - about $3 for a 32 oz. bottle. I spray it on, get a semi-stiff brush, and go at it. I go at it like wet-sanding, spray, brush, and keep spraying while brushing. If you let it dry, it will just stain it again so keep it wet, then after you are done, hose it off.
That gets a good deal of it off, but on the really harsh stains, I use any heavy-duty degreaser that you can find at most hardware stores. Doesn't matter which kind and I usually go for the stuff that seems to be the strongest (look for the uses on the bottle and look for things that clean driveways, garages, etc). I use that sparingly and it doesn't strip the clear-coat or ruin the paint, but takes really stubborn tar/dust/anything off.
Hope this helps

next time you get them cleaned, put a coat of Metal Armor Paint and Hard Surface Polish and then a coat of Metal Armor Final Polish and Sealant.
I use that process on my C5's, and the brake dust and crap wipes off with a soft towel and quick detailer. even brake fluid came right off when I had a leaking line.
Give it a try, well worth it.
