PROJECT UPDATE *pics*

it is 100% out of paint now though.. I can't get any good pictures with the digital, it doesn't show the flake at all. Here's a few anyways:

engine bay:

Still lots of stuff left to reassemble... I'll post some pics of the custom spoiler once it is fitted.

The rest of my family are tool & die makers... my dad cut them with a CNC mill

We were trying to decide what badging to put on the car... it wasn't an RS anymore... and not really a Z28 either... it was a conglomeration of different cars so we decided to make our own.

The ZZD was taken from an article in Chevy Hi Performance called Zig & Zag... where they tuned the suspension on a thirdgen to pull better numbers than C5s and low end Ferarris... we want to be able to do road racing, auto cross and drag racing with this car... so it is called project ZZD - Zig Zag & Drag

The emblems are going out for chroming soon.

I bolted the spoiler on... here's a few pics:

The car still needs to be wet sanded and buffed... there are two runs in the clear coat on the spoiler...

These are not the tail ligts that will be used either... I just stuck them in there for the pictures. I am going to do a set of grid style using candy to turn the amber and white parts red... I'm going to do a set of these as well and use which ever ones end up looking better.

looks great . That will be a show winner there. Hey while you still have some paint right now , you should do a thing that ive seen and kandiedz did to his car. Its get magnets for the rear quarters and paint them body color , so when you do burnouts you dont get little rock chips in your paint . that was all i could think if to do for now , but deffy get some paint , so you could do interior pieces or like a nos bottle the body color or just get some to have . looks killer though , i love it .

lol yeah... we haven't decided what to do for exhaust tips yet... those are just the tail pipes that came with the kit... I am thinking like 2X6" flat oval shaped tail pipes like NASCAR used to use... two of them centered about 2.5 feet apart.

It is Candy with a gold base... good eye

We went with a gold base... because when the sun hits it... it flips orange... instead of pink you get with a silver base.

The paint is PPG:

PPG Pure gold base
PPG Sunset red midcoat
PPG Clear

Thanks guys!

I'll ask the question differently for the simple minded people around here. I honesly just thought he was gonna leave the car without window sweeps, dash pad, and all the interior that seems to be removed.

My question re-thought out:

Are you planing to keep the rain gaurds off the car when you put it back together.

Considering I don't really care for those wheels.............I must say the wheels fit the car well. As for the spoiler it will be a hit or miss with most people. I like it though.

It is lowered with NASCAR style weight jacks on 4 corners.... the ride height can be set by popping the hood and the hatch and turning the screws... on full slam it is basically laying frame. We're waiting for the proper length rear springs to come in.... these ones are too tall.

like the color, nice to see it fully coated. would like to see a nice picture of the whole car to fully look at the paint. nice to see you went with gold too, so many use silver but i agree that it turns a little to pink. just depends on what you want i guess. what size flake did you end up using? looks good.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

We didn't actually add any flake to the paint... the PPG pure gold base coat is basically composed of nothing but fine gold flake and some clear to hold it on the car.... I think thats why it takes so many coats to cover. In the sun it flips like insane.

Hi I am Ratchet the painter guy.

There was a problem with the paint on the spoiler so it has to be repainted. Its a pain in the you know but it also makes for an new opportunity.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a graphic or lettering to go on the spoiler. I was thinking about ghosting something in buy putting the base coat down masking off a graphic then spray two coats of candy then remove the mask and put the final 4 coats of candy on and then the clear.

Come on all you paint shop guys give me some ideas.

Thanks
Ric

if your looking to ghost something on the spoiler why don't you put " ZIG-ZAG-DRAG" that would be cool. btw the care is totaly awesome. Is the engine painted the same color? its hard to tell.
