Just got back from the o.c show (pics)

Didn't get a trophy but the car did make a drastic change imo.

Future plans

New front bumper (mine sags)
Rear rim moved in (1.5 spacer instead of 2")
Rims tucking (lowered more)
Fiberglass box where back seats were (2 15's ported)Painted pearl white

Tell me what yous think of her.

How hard would it be for you to make changes to your red interior? I dont know what kind of contest this is but a stock red interior were kinda..ya know unless its in pretty good condition. If your going to do the rear seat thing, what do you have for your other speakers and h.u.? The car looks great and I cant see any spacing problem with the wheels at least from that pic. The sagging bumper is probably a must.

For the interior, what should really win me a trophy is, Some kind of material that bonds vynal to plastic. Get myself a nice credit card, rolls of white vynal and do all the plastics in it. Be so damn nice, i'd love it : ) Our dashes I also hate them things... old plastic alls it does is crack. Maybe like a 4th gen dash? not sure tho. I have an alpine flip down head unit. Not sure on an amp yet since my rf1000bd blew on me. But yeah all this stuff takes awhile. Its also hard with a daily driver. I'm off to bed i'll catch you guys later thanks for the comments, keep em coming!!

I hate when people always say this, but I really think black headlight pockets go really well with that hood, especially on a white car.

Yeah and then I hate when people photoshop it to convince the person how good it looks...

thats actually one rare time where I'd agree with painting the headlight pockets black....just because you have the black louvers now...if you had kept that cowl I'd leave them white.....looks sharp though

Dude 82firebird you being sarcastic? As soon as you said that I remember someone had one that I was asking about which looked really good and then I remember it was you. I think way to many people are wanting the black headlight pockets but in this case I agree, just dont tell me to do it on my car. Im also dont think the trenz grill works for your car but thats just my opinion, a slick black grill with white Chevy emblem and possibly fog lights would me sweeeettttt. What do you have under the hood by the way? I would say interior and grill are all you should possibly consider making changes to.

Complete black or black/charcoal interior swap, grill and foglights, rear seat fiberglass sub box housing two 15's and maybe a 12 in the middle, integrated ipod and monitor into your dash possibly hooked up to cameras in the back, undercarriage lights possibly and also a navigation/gps in there somewhere, you've gone a job right?

the car looks good with the different hood and a lot of stuff that you fixed, like the paint on the nose and the clear corners.

it looks like the photoshop took 2 seconds! lol

The way I'm doing a back seat box will surely not look out of place. Here's an example I will make it out of wood first, then coat it with fiberglass. I put 2 ports at the bottom (1 on each side) I was also thinking of doin the 2 15's in rings and bring them out of the box a bit with a slight angle instead of being flat.
Then paint pearl white and its in all nice and flush. No out of place crap buddy. All black carpet. Be nice imo.

You probably dont care or already know but 82firebird, the guy above that said they are out of place has a pretty nice one that you should maybe look at. It was fiberglass or at least coated in fiberglass and in my opinion looks very awsome especially if it fits right.

Ya Im not a fan for the red really but its clean at least. I would do something with the seats because I think thats probably were you lost the interior points at if anything, they dont fit and match to well but Im probably just bein an a-hole here.

Yeah the covers dont, but the seats under do. Which are very dirty tho. The leather is just shot. I went on 82firebirds car domain and that box in the back seat area i guess i would say. Looks like its about to fly out the hatch window. Looks out of place. The one i will do is going to be flush.. Youll see

I sort of agree, I like the shape but think his is way too big, I would do that shape but smaller and blend it into the rear hump better.

It could just be the picture but its looks like all the paint needs is a little wax and shine. To me the picture at the top has more shine than the one at the bottom so its just the pics. What do you do before shows?

well... basically I want a bragging trophy. And i'm trying to figure whats possible that I can do before the august show to earn one. I'm sure kandied has good tips since he has experience and knows what judges look for more then me. I kno i will need interior work. The fiberglass box and white vynal on the plastics, car lowerd more to a somewhat tuck, new front bumper, the black grill with the white camaro lettering with grill mesh behind. Some strobes inside hidden(them judges like that for some reason) , maybe some white seats from a 4th gen or sumtin.

Kandied! help me .. nothing too crazy because i have a motor to build/t56 to buy

a show is all about being clean. key points are your engine, paint and interior with your underside being last.

once these are good then the judges look to modifications and it all depends on who is in your class. the more modifications you have the nicer your paint, engine and interior must be.

definately need something in the rear unless you can fool the judges into thinking it came that way. so throw your seats back in or build something.

your carpet looks nice but it's dirty. no one cares at shows what the actual color is. it's how clean and nice it fits. you need new seat covers, floor mats and when you park a car at a show a small tip would be to align your plastic vents so they are all straight and even. little things like that become important.

this all has to go. i highlighted some trouble in the rear areas. put the factory pieces in to cover this or change to the older style plastic without them. rusted screws... that's one thing on the underside or engine bay if it's a must but somewhere that's plainly seen in the interior. some judges won't even judge yoru interior if you had this type of thing. these things make your interior look unfinished and would be good points against you.

if you are in a crowd participation judging class then none of this will help you. you either have something people like as a majority or you don't and only your build taste will set that apart.

I have the black cargo/hatch cover for those holes if your interested. I grabbed one from a junk yard along with those plastic brackets thinking I could fab my panels and its not worth it to me unless someone can find an easy way. I was thinking the same thing about the vents. If I were you I would go with 4th gen seats which will be very hard to find a pair that match your interior or get new seat covers. I used the seat covers on my car and they are truly a pain in the butt to recover but worth it. Floor mats arent a bad idea at all but maybe go for the extra points and get a nice set with z28 or similiar emblem. Just listen to Kandied.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic about saying they look out of place. Crazy said mine looked out of place, so I can't wait to see what he will conjure up.

Mine hasn't flown out the hatch yet either by the way.

lol maybe it hasn't learned how to fly yet jp with ya.

so basically kandied a show car is usually a car that barely see's the street. When i get my motor in, alittle bit after its broken in I plan to pull it, smooth the firewall and re paint the whole car along/ fire wall. And to get a good paint under the car it means that its probably been restored. So all in all a good show car would be a project car you set aside and work on for a long amount of time here and there that just sits and never gets driven daily. I think its very rare to see a show car win a trophy thats a daily driver. Your old car that was bagged the candy red one. That was in mint condition wasn't it? Was that restored? if so approx. how long does it take to get a car to show worthy. your car probably sat and was trailerd everywhere huh?

depends, you have trailer queens which still doesn't guarantee a show win and you have weekend drivers that are nice enough to be show cars. mine was a weekend driver/trailer car. i drove it everywhere i could but if it was more then a 50 mile drive i trailered it for security and insurance reasons.

you can not have a daily driver and have a show car... it doesn't happen and won't happen. it's impossible to keep up with all the little things that go wrong. you can have a daily driver that is nice enough to enter into shows though and compete on lower levels.

my last car took me 7 years to build. it started off as a daily all year car and became a summer car with a few modifications to a nicely modified car that was a daily driver. eventually i moved it to a weekend car that was mild modified and then it became a heavily modified car.

it was fun but honestly i can't say it was any more fun then when it was a daily and i drove the hell out of it.

yeah thats what i was thinking. When you show the car its almost a pay off. But nothings a better pay off when your cruising your car enjoying the hell out of it. Well that cleared a lot up. For some reason i dont want to go all out on a t-top car. Since it's getting 450hp under the hood, I dont see how i could keep the paint and everything mint anyway. Just my first car i'll enjoy it. i'm 17 and maybe when i get older like 20 it would work out much better. Hard competing with 20+ year olds. You kno how many people I saw at the show that was my age? only like 4 which were all my friends. So i guess an age class would be nice haha but taking a trophy over a 20+ sumtin year old would be mighty nice lol.

i guess takin a trophy in a show to some people is important.

i won a trophy in a show last yr, the show was big over 100 cars. but the thing that kinda is killing me is that alot of people got trophys becuz it was a sponcers best choice award. but alot of people got them id say about 40 ruffly.

the only i didnt like was that i got one, my brother got one, my friend with a mint 1le got one, my friend with a monty got one. now my car is not even considered show worthy, would like to have it or a car thats show worthy one day.

just dont kick yourself if you dont win one. ive had my car in tons of shows over the past 3 yrs and just late last yr i got that one.

trophys arnt as important as peoples comments.

by the way your car looks sick for a v6 car. all id say is drop it alittle more or wait till the v8 is in. change the interior to either gray or black and paint the headlight pockets black. then your car will be lookin very very good.

Yeah but better to go out then not to. There was like 7 4th gens and 1 other thirdgen that i blew outa the water in show. I dunno. The class is "chevy" not specific at all. So i'm going against all them body kit caviler crap. A camaro got a trophy and i saw it. It had real nice paint i'm sure i could get one. I'm not mad about not getting a trophy. I didnt expect it cause my car isn't to its potential yet. Lowered more, rear rim tucked in, new front bumper, system where back seats were ya kno. I have some crazy plans i been thinking up. I dunno how a camaro looks with everything molded, but i was thinkin about it, also like that gas tank cap that 82firebird has, I feel that would go great with my rims. 82 would you suggest doing that with a car already painted or no I could mess up my paint in the process? It looks pretty good. i'll re do the hole cars body in like a year and a half when the new motors all broken in.

Yeah polished up the grids, Theres alittle surface dust on them in this pic. I use mothers plastic polish on the show days just to make sure they were nice... I did buff them previously.

If you're going to put on a billet gas door and don't plan on having the car painted anytime soon, just be sure to mask off around the areas that won't be cut. The only real cutting you'll have to do is so the ring of the gas door will have something to bolt to on the body. Pick one up and play with it, you'll see what I mean.

exotic. for many reasons. Were you there? Just wondering cause then you would know if you weren't I'll try to explain some of the car but i didnt check it out too too much. Paint was old , some chipping and flaking, alls I can remember is the car wasnt done right. wish i had a picture of it i'll have to get my camera developed lol i didnt even do that yet.

Yeah steve we will, weather has been so crappy down here we'll have to wait till it clears or sumtin. As on the paint comment, your right in person its crazy. Now in person when the cars clean its even crazier. It's gotta be my camera. oh well lol pos camera

Thanks fast83 I have the top part of the box down and the front framed out. Then i gotta get a back then sides ect. Its the hardest box i have done in my life i wont give up tho. Cause every little curve had to be perfect ya kno.

First, I really like the car. The hood looks much better, but I think hood blisters would look really good on it. That color is very nice. The wheels look sweet, and will look better when they are not sticking out as much. Nice ride man.

This car maybe??

The car isn't perfect, it gets driven everyday so there are paint chips in the front bumper. However, it also has a fiberglass sub box, racing seats, all stewart warner gauges in the dash and a built motor.

At a show like the OC car show, the judges judge based on a majority of things and may look at things a lil different than what kandied is used to. They look at modifications, how well the mod fits the car (they say it should look like the car rolled off the assembly line like that), rarity of the mod, and cleanliness.

The Judge sheets at this particular show had 10 different sections of the car to look at, each section had a max of 5 points for cleanliness and 5 points for overall look per section totalling 100 points.
