I was driving home from weightliftign this morning and i was in the lane to the left of this dumptruck trying to pass it and something flew off of it and hit my hood. Now i got a nice little 'X' mark (probably about 2-4mm x 2-4mm) that its probably going to turn into a paint chip over time. Damn i hate all of that little **** a car gets from driving it. I almost wish my car wasnt so nice so i wouldnt have to freak out over a paintchip or something.
Sorry, just had to vent...

Damn, that sucks.
most of the time im on the highway there are trucks with crap flying off of them and things are not tied down or secure at all.

A friend of mine was driving behind a company truck and a barrel fell off and ruined his bumper.. the company paid to fix it too...

I like the "Not Responsible for Flying Debris. Stay Back 65 ft." signs on the back of some dump trucks.

Well let's see:
-The truck didnt have any stickers on the back of it
-I was more than 65 feet behind it when the rock (or whatever it waS) flew out of it and hit me
-And i wasnt even directly behind it. i was in the lane next to it, about 100 feet back..
So needless to say i got no such warning, and even if i did it wouldnt have mattered in my situation...

If it hits the road and hits u, it is a road hazard(within normal reason here people obviously a load coming out in traffic isnt normal)
If it comes off of another vehicle and hits u directly, they are responsible :-)

I just finished painting my car a few weeks ago, and when I finally brought it home from the shop there was a small chip in the front spoiler from debris or somethin.
Make sure you touch that up quick before it starts peeling.

See if it was me it be a perfect reason to get a new hood and repaint the entire car
And that reason is why my RS is rarely street driven anymore

You should see my car. Right after i got my paint job i had a couple of chip marks on my ss hood.
The only thing you can really do to save your car from chips up front is to get a bra for the front end.

yeh it happens.... sadly theres never a way to keep an every day daily driver looking the way it did before you left the house. My tires or so wide frigin rocks just love to bounce off the side of the rear panels. I just deal with it now... nothing you can really do if you drive the car daily.

My statement was swimming with sarcasm, hence the smilie. Yes, I have been in the adjoining lane about 100 feet back and had flying pebbles hit me from a dump truck too. I used to deliver items for a living and saw lots of interstate miles. I just thought that sign was udderly ridiculous when I saw it.Originally posted by a mack6

3.8TransAM, is your statement based on solid jurisprudence?

If you lived here you see "Stay back 200'. Not responsible for broken windshields". Doesn't stop anyone here from being 5" off the trucks rear though. Originally posted by Jade Grey

It's rather impossible to control every piece of debris a vehicle has or picks up.
I was behind a blue hair the other night, followed over a RR x-ing and you'd be amazed the crap that dislodged from the bumper. It was apparently a country road car. I probably should have jumped out at the red light we came to though have gave here a folding chair shampoo for letting that dirt hit my car though...

I found rocks setting on top of my gas tank on my camaro (changed pump). My work vehicle constantly picks up gravel and ejects randomly. If it dislodges and hits a car.. I don't have alot of control over it. If you ran up to me threatening to beat my posterior over it... good luck getting any satisfaction.
Anyone who has ever driven a car had kicked road debris up at anothers car. If we used the great mentality of beating another -ss over it.. that's all you'd see every 50' on the road for paint getting chipped.
Things like this happen. Granted.. it's sucks, I know but, it happens... Do what you can to repair the spot and move on. If this is the biggest trauma in your life.. feel fortunate. There's mush worse that can haqppen.
Just my opinion though...
