87 Iroc ????
Local small car lot has a 87 IROC. Cars has 63000 miles on it.
The body needs paint and some minor body work. No rust, Paint is faded very badly you can see the metal in alot of spots.
Car seems to run good no issues with the engine or trans. The interior is o.k. Dash has two cracks from the sun. The interior with a good scrubing will look o.k.
He wants $2400 for it.
Needs paint i figure around $3000.
About another $1000 in small stuff that would need to be replaced along the way.
Is this car worth that? Iwould have eventually 6500 invested in it to get it looking good.
Thanks for any opinions
Phil

For $6500, you could probably get a car in much better shape that has it's original paint intact. You would also be able to enjoy the car from the day you bring it home rather than requiring lots of work to get it there. For $6500, there's a chance you'll also find one with less miles. Keep looking, but look outside your area. That will give you more options. This might be a good price if you want to do a cusom paint anyway.

I'd look around.........with 63K you'd think they would have taken better care of it.

They're asking too much for a car that needs paint....I'd look for something in better shape....
My post didn't make much sense at the end when I reread it. $2400 isn't bad if you want to do a custom repaint. Repainting the car it's original color and trying to a restoration, I'd think you could do better. It all depends on your intentions.

I would try to talk him down. But I would buy it. My dad paid $2000 for the 92 RS, it was in pretty good shape as far as paint and interior go. But it had 120k miles on it. Is the IROC a 350?
And Scottmoyer made a good point. Now you can paint the car whatever color you want.

That 63000 miles and probably is 163000 miles if the car in that shape. 87 models have only a five (5) digit odometer. I know as a fact, my IROC now has only 1045 miles on it.

Might check around for the paint job. No rust or major dents, a repaint around here is about 1500 for base clear. Agree with above comment on the milage, easily could be over 100K miles.
