new paint
I am painting my 89, I am going to paint it red and I would like to put 2 white stripes down it. what my question is, I was told that I have to paint the car with the base coat, then clear it, then I have to scuff up the clear to put on my stripes. I was wondering if this is true, it just sounds like double work. Also, how long do you wait for the base coat to dry before you can tape off.

you can paint the car the base color then let it dry then you can mask out the stripes after the stripes are done you clear this is how I do flames and it tunes out pretty good so I imagine stripes are no problem you should wait a couple of days before taping off thr stripes so that when you take the tape off the paint doesn't come with and you would have redo the those areas.
