What stops one with an air compressor to sand, prime and paint their hood? No garage or paint booth? Build one! I know there are advantages of using a pro paint booth but for just a hood, you should be able to construct a small area to keep the dust out, put a high powered fan system in it to pull the dust particles away from the paint. The only reason that I would try this is because my hood is the only thing that really makes my paint look bad, all the clear coat is almost all gone!

 

that would be alright unless you are blending the fenders. then you would need something bigger like a garage or paint booth. make sure that your compressor can keep up with you gun. theres nothing worse than running low on air pressure when you are in the middle of painting something

 

you can do it in a portable garage or string up a tarp for painting, i do it all the time outside, use base claer and do the clear early morning to mid morning and you'll keep the bugs out late day is the worst. you can sand out any dust in the clear after its cured for 24 hours.

I also paint outside with no problems, To keep dust and bugs out, I picked up one of those carport tents like they sell at wal-mart. Just wrap the sides with pallet wrap and you got yourself a paintbooth for $100. If you do get imperfections, just wetsand them out.
