Color Scheme: Black/Red vs Silver/Red

whats up guys, lookin for some opinions here. I need to get this paint scheme straightened out here, and I'm stuck between a couple options. what i have is an 86 iroc, ss hood, hirise spoiler, 18" Eagle alloy 077 (simple 5 spoke design)...The main color has to be red, and the accents are the variable, black or silver or charcoal metallic...

option 1 - Red body with silver or polished rims, then silver racing stripes....if you pick this, should I go with silver or polished rims?

option 2 - 2 tone, cut at the upper body line right under window line. bottom will be red, top will be black. windows will be all blacked out, then paint the rims black. if you pick this, should I paint the wheels all black, or should I leave the lip polished.

option 3 - 2 tone idea like opt. 2, but top will be a charcoal metallic, then rims would be charcoal metallic, than the bottom of the body would be red.

Here's a pic for the 2 tone line....also the 2 tone will be cut with a silver stripe to break it up...

I don't like two tone paint jobs personally, i would say the red with the stripes but i would do the strips black it would look so much better, and chrome rims.

I say go with the charcoal colors. Would look sweet with the 2 tone and black.

Im with steve383 on this one. I like the two tone paint jobs, but I usually favor color combos with silver in them, such as pewter and black, blue/silver, red/silver. When you start putting reds and blacks together or blues and blacks on two tones it just doesnt look right to me and makes it busy.

Overall I would say go with Option 3. Plus charcoal wheels look sick on anything as far as Im concerned.

i'm not sure what steve383 is saying, he said charcoal colors because they would look good with the 2 tone and black. So charcoal on the top, red on the bottom and charcoal wheels or what?

Also i do agree, I love silver and red, but the reason i wanted black or dark on the top was becuase i'm gonna 5% tint all my windows, i think that would look sweet to have the whole top half black. Dont' you? also i have nightshade for the taillights too. So it would be real easy to carry the black throughout the car..

so 85_TA_WS6, you would say go with the charcoal on top, and charcoal wheels? becuase i think if i went red body, then silver racing stripes, then charcoal rims...it would be too much.

Do you guys think it would be better to match it all? like color match the wheels to the stripes/or 2 tone?

keep the opinions coming!

RED with silver stripes and polish the rims......

its a hot look esp with the high rise spoiler.

i like option 2 as well, red bottom with top black... with black rims with polished lip

its something i'm thinking of doing so i dont really want to suggest it to you! LOL i wanna be the only one like that

either of those would be nice

i think that 2 tone would look awesome if done right...but its a gutzy call...because my painter has never done it. so there is a chance the thing could be a big flop, and look like sh*t ya know

as far as the rims go, polishing is gonna cost a couple hundred to get them repolished, because they are in crappy shape. so i'm kinda leaning towards painting them

what about red, some nice thick silver stripes, and silver rims...how would that look? or should I spend the extra to get them polished?

I actually had typed that and deleted it because I realized he wanted to keep the red. Ive ALWAYS thought the pewter with black was the best two tone color combo hands down.

klumb15, I would say that if you want to be a little more risky and different, go with top half silver and the bottom half red with painted wheels. If you want to go with more of a classic, aggressive style go with the red body and silver stripes (polished or painted wheels would both look great in my opinion). You cant really go wrong with red body silver stripes, its a solid muscle car color scheme and I think compliments 3rd gens well if you dont go overboard on the stripes and bend them with the body right (depending on how much you want the stripes to cover). Personally I would make the best photoshop you can and judge off of that. Im just trying to picture combos in my head.

Oh and another thing....what red are you planning on using? Because the difference between a maroon red and a bright red can change everything. If its a maroon red I say go black on the top, if its a bright red, go silver.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Charcoal bottom with black top. No red. Red is overdone with these cars. But than some will say so is grey/Gunmetal/charcoal. But really, it's up to you...we can only give opinions. But that's what I say...go with the charcoal bottom and black top with the charcoal rims...MINT color combos...

yea i would love to go with the charcoal and darker colors like you guys are saying..kinda like the Eleanor car. But I have to keep red. Because i'm not getting my engine bay or anything repainted again, so that would look stupid with a black exterior and red engine bay.

So red has to be a color. And its gonna be BRIGHT RED, like a corvette red. So go with some nice fat silver racing stripes, and polish or paint my wheels then silver? I think that would look pretty good. What about like diamond pearl racing stripes. that off white that you see the escalade's painted in??

that would look good too...like on the 4th gen's... i have t tops, so it would be a very subtle, but nice change...

then do like the side or top of my ss schoop in black too...

what do you guys think of that? what color rims should I go with if i did this...this sounds like a pretty good idea..

well here would be the colors and close to the right shade for 2 tone red/black....more i look at it, its too gaudy...that pillar and top black sounds like an awesome idea...silver stripes sound awesome too! why is this so hard to choose!

so lets change it up

option 1 - Black pillars and roof, darker tinted ttops, and windows.
wheels - silver or polished?

option 2 - All red, fat silver stripes, extent all the way down the bumpers.
wheels - silver or polished?

that one just posted is nice how about extending the black down to the bottom of the headlight buckets and use that hard line all the way across.

i like the v front better, like shown in the first pic I posted...but, that first one would be real hard to pull off, it would need a good painter, and alot of money to make it look that good. And that seems unpractical

i'm loving the black pillars and roof, with the blackout out windows....i looked at a few 4th gen's with this, and the more and more i look at it, i love it...

That was actually going to be my next suggestion, the 4th gen look. The only tricky part is going to be getting the paint line to flow from the sail panel to the hatch. On 4th gens its more part of the body line and sweeps around in semicircle, but we have more pronounced sail panels on our cars. Now that I've put more thought into it I put my vote in for the 4th gen look and dark tinted windows with painted wheels to save you some money. If you have the extra time and cash you cant really go wrong with polished wheels. Just as long as you dont go chrome because chrome is too blingy for my tastes.

yea the wheels are aluminum, so its either polished or painted.

I do realize the line will be difficult to get right, but its alot easier to retape a little section to get it right, rather than retaping the whole car to get it right ya know. I have fate in his skill to do a little section like that, it shouldn't be too difficult...

if anybody could do me a favor when they get bored and photshop a car like i've been desribing with black and polished wheels. I don't have the resources or the knowledge, so it would be greatly appreciated.

but any more opinions will be entertained, but this 4th gen looks to be the ticket. it'll be subtle but still distinctive IMO...
