Painted Inserts on 91Z28 16" wheels

I have the factory 16"X 8" Z28 aluminum wheels with the red painted inserts. The red has faded on the front wheels and now they look pink. I was thinking of sending them out to be redone, but wonder if the red will fade again. Anyone else have this problem? If so I may skip the red inserts or look at something else. Those chrome IROC wheels sure look good!!

I had the same problem with the wheels on my 1992 Z28.They were almost pink before I had them redone. There are a lot of places that will re-paint them, but they are too high with their prices.I had mine re-painted and clear coated for $200 by a local body shop.

Keep it simple and cheap and you can do it yourself unless you're like Tim Allen and even a screwdriver can get you in trouble.
Get yourself some good masking tape and some red rustoleum in a spray can. Choose whatever color looks best to you. Clean the wheels really well with a toothbrush and wheel cleaner till they're completely free of brake dust and crap. Tape off any of the areas you don't want painted and spray on two or three coats of Rustoleum. Let it dry completely and remove the tape. Chances are that it'll last as long as the factory paint did and short of a chemical analysis no one will know it only cost you $10.

Thanks for the comments. As luck would have it, I did a loan (I am a banker) for a guy who works at a body shop Friday. He stated the reason they fade is because GM painted these. He said if I want them to look good long term, they need to be powdercoated. Does this make sense?
