Hi. I need pics of the side view of Trans am's. I just bought my first car, Im 16. The last owner decided to switch the old doors he had to another pair. The car was later repainted. I just realized after 2 months of owning it, why my car looked so different from the others. Mine is a 1983 TA. I thought that it was just that the body style between mine and my dad's 1987 made it look so different. But then while looking at it really closely i finally realized that it was becaus my car is missing the ground effex on the sides of my car between the doors. The front and back ground effex are on though. I dont know what to do, do i need to buy a whole new set of ground effex? Can i find the side ground effex at a bone yard? Please post pics of side views of TA's so i can make sure that that is definitely the case with my car, especially if you have any pics of 83's. If i need new ground effex, are there any really nice ground effex to buy besides the stock ones? Any pics of different ground effex that would fit on my '83? Please send all the pics possible...thanks. By the way, how much would a whole new set of ground effex cost?

Don't have pics of the gfx for an 83, but this might help. Try either www.thirdgenresurce.com or usatacreations.com for pricing on used gfx. I know TA creations has pretty good deals for the gfx all the way around.

I think any year side ground fx would look alright with any year front and rear. Just get some side ones.

In 83 the Trans Am's didn't have GFX. The only exception was the Daytona 500 pace car.

The black one is an 84,,, the red is an 87, I think. The difference in the ground fx is the height (or thickness) of them as you can see from these 2.

'82-'84 all were the same. In '85 they changed and added ground effects. This is my '82, and my friend has an '84, and they are both exactly the same.

Go to Classic Industries, you can buy the rocker panels and door fillers seperately. If you can find a junked car it will be cheaper.

1988 Firebird under restoration

 

again no 83 Firebirds had ground effects except the daytona 500 pace car. In 84 they received full body ground FX, and in 85 they changed to the larger ground fx with integrated foglights, then in 91 they went to the rain gutter GFX. From 82-83 Trans Am's at the most used small flares in front and behing the wheel wells, but they didn't extend more than a few inches.

Thanks everybody. Well all I know is that my car is a 1983 TA. I guess the previous owner put ground effex on it if it isnt supposed to come with gfx stock. My gfx are thicker than those shown on the 1984. Also, my tail lights are totally different than the ones in the pic shown. I have newer style taillights too i guess. My title says i have a 1983 TA, so i dont kno what is so different about mine. Maybe i can take some pics, and get a scanner to post the pics of my car. Thanks.
