Need a decent rear view mirror and mounting pad that gets glued to the windshield. I believe it should have the maplight option. I bought a self dimming unit supposedly for a 1986 at a swap meet but the connector is not the same.

It's been a while since I looked at dimming mirrors but the connectors do vary. If it's a usability issue you can make up an adapter. If you want it to be technically correct there is a matrix I started but the results don't specify what years had which mirrors. As you can see in the link, some have square vs. round covers and the leads varied. They were all made by a company called Gentex and were in multiple makes of cars. If you want reliability, the later non-mechanical dimming mirrors are the way to go especially if you're installing a new mounting pad.

Oh, I could be wrong, but I thought it was mostly convertibles that had the map lights because they were unable to include dome lights. I have seen them in some 1990's hard tops but not Thirdgens.

I pulled this from an 89 formula . Also found them in other regular third gens. Don't have any auto dimming types
