Working with Fiberglass

I want to learn to do my own fiberglass work and was wondering if those of you with some experience could suggest where to get the stuff and how to learn. I was thinking I'd try making a sub box first to kinda get my feet wet. What do I need to get and how tough is it?

Actually, working with it is pretty easy, as long as the itching doesn't get to you. Basically, you cut your mat to the size and then you lay it down, and soak it with the resin. You should put some foam padding all over so the glass doesn't stick to the car itself. For a speaker box, you'll need to make a "top", to mount the top piece that the speakers will mount to. The "top" should just be the top third, or quarter of a normal box. You make the four sides, then drop it in the hole where you want it, then glass from there. Was this helpful? Well, any more ?s, just ask.

the fiberglass coth and resin wont make you itch.if you sand it the particles from the cloth can itch and hurt if you scratch it.Just wash it off with water without rubbing it.Or just be safe and wear gloves and a long sleeve shirt and have fun.The directions that come with most do it yourself kits are pretty clear.I guess you already know you will need some type of frame to start with.

Hey the trouble most people have is not wetting the glass enough. It is pretty easy to work with. Use a good rubber glove and have some acetone for the clean up. It is not a clean job. Depending on the size of the job you may need a small brush 2" or so for a small job for a larg job a paint roller works great. What size box are you going to make?? If you want to make it out of just glass it will be fun if this is the first time working with it. They have some vedio on this check under fiberglass.
