Rims? Paint job? what should i do??
Rims? Paint job? what should i do??
well now i have a dilemma lol. im getting ready to have my car painted but lately ive been seeing some really great pics of aftermarket rims for these cars and it just has me wondering what i should do first. i have the money to do both but will do one first then save some more then do the other. i was thinking paint job first b/c obviously it will improve the look of the car 100%. but,,,i dont *think* i need it that bad just yet. now if i get rims the look will improve as well, and if something ever happens to my bird i do plan on buying another one so i'd be able to reuse the rims, hopefully. i am thinking Ronal Firehawks, something similar looking, or a cheap 600 or 700 dollar maaco paint job. any opinions?? check out the link in my sig for older pics of my car. the paint is not trashed by any means but there is some fade noticeable as well as a dented hood and chipped front bumper.

Your car would be better off with paint and body work first. The rims will always be there. Nothing feels better than that Oh So Fresh feeling of a new paint job.

If maaco is your choice, do wheels. If you're willing to do it right and have a good shop paint your car, do that.

Get nice wheels and then primer the car. Start looking around, even crappy cars with nice rims and a straight body look good with nice wheels. If you do most of the body work at home and can primer the car, paint/body work will be much chepar, meaning you can save up for it and have them smooth out your primer job.
If you are going to get a hood or any other panel/gfx/spoiler, you're going to have to paint those too, might as well get it all ready and then get it done.

what was said earlier...if no body work spoiler/hood and such do paint. But if your planning down the road for a new hood it will cost decent amount to get painted and matched. Might as well do it all once.
well i do need some body work. definitely a new spoiler. possibly a new hood. reason why i wanna do maaco is b/c the car is daily driven. its not a show car, even tho i know its the best way to go for longevity. but spend 4 grand all in one shot like that? no way. now if i had like 10 grand saved then it'd be a different story. like i said in another post. im not worried bout how it will look later. i want it to look good NOW. i'll have money in the future if and when the paint goes to sh*t to just do it over again.
anyone have any good links to view some rims?

Definately go for a GOOD paint job first! do the sanding and primering at home first. This will save oyu a lot of money so you can afford to put a GOOD paint job on it, not that Mako crap.

why have good now, and plan on it being bad later? In the end it's your money, but with as big of an investment as these cars end up being, a good rule of thumb is do it once and do it right?
i hear u camaro guy. well i should be getting a decent tax return check soon, depending on how big it is then that'll decide how much i'll spend on paint. doing the prep work myself is not an option and i stated the reasons why in one of my threads in the "body and interior" section. so paint for now will wait. ima find out how much the tires for the new rims would cost me.
