Yeah, I wanted the defrost grid gone too, I found the easiest way wasy just to buy a NON defrost hatch glass which may be non existent where you live. They came out mostly in the southern states where you dont need the defrost. I picked up one for my 92 RS, now i just have to get it tinted...........jt
Even if you take a razor blade to them, they'll still show a little. Not as bad though, and when the tint is applied it darkens them to almost invisible, much better than if they were still there anyway. Of course they won't work anymore.
The main stripes running fore and aft on both sides aren't as easy. They'll mostly come off, but not all the way. Try to get them as best you can, and you can still barely tell once it's tinted.
Otherwise, just get a non-defroster glass like he said.
This was my experience with two of them, anyway.

I'd just get a defrosterless hatch from a junkyard. I thought about trying to remove my defroster, but decided to just put on a defrosterless hatch.

HA! "just get a defrosterless hatch from a junkyard"
Dude i live in Canada!
I have never even seen a defrosterless hatch here. I bet close to every Canadian thirdgen car has hatch defrosters. Just finding a back hatch is out of the question. But i find if you use stainless razorblades on glass it scratches alot less.
