Do goodmark cowl hoods really fit perfect?
Do goodmark cowl hoods really fit perfect?
i do not have a garage like im sure all of you do, just a regular car garage with some wrenches and stuff and i need a cowl hood. i know i have to get it painted, but i was hoping to do it myself, or with the help of my dads chevy body shop. but i do need a hood that fits perfect, just simple hinge instalation. i heard the only hood that fits perfect is goodmark steel cowl hood, is this true? if not what hood does fit perfect
and i could careless about the weight, im not racing at a track at 180 mph, just something to look good and scare away the slow rustangs so i can take the good ones out

I'm not sure about a perfect fit because I've never used a Goodmark hood, but in general a steel hood will fit substantially better than a fiberglass hood, and if it doesn't, it's a LOT easer to make it fit. I had to **** with my Harwood hood for a full day to get it to fit as good as it does, and it's still FAR from a good fit. In general, steel hoods will be much more consistant than fiberglass, so as long as the design is good, the hood should be too. The only thing I don't like about the goodmark is that the cowl doesn't extend back toward the windshield like the old 69 SS hoods.

I know a guy with a body shop and he has used 5 or so Goodmark cowl hoods on chevy pickups, and he said that they are the best hoods he has ever used. He said that they come "over-packed", meaning that they are very well crated, and he hasn't had to do any extra work to them. The extra crating adds to the shipping cost(I don't know how much), but they arrive in excellent condition. We are in North Dakota, and I believe they ship from Georgia, so I imagine shipping cost isn't too cheap. From the hoods I have seen, they are very high quality, with factory-style bracing and a screen welded over the scoop opening. As soon as I can afford one, I'll be putting one on my 89.
