Pretty Sure I totaled my car...

I was driving to school today and it began to downpour. Couldn't even see with the wipers on the fastest setting. Not sure exactly waht happened but i lost control of the car and it slide over onto the other side of the road and off the road into a ditch and then into a telephone pole. I was going approximately 35 MPH when i lost control. No one from the insurance company has looked at it yet, but everyone who was there said they would total it. The passenger side rear wheel popped off, the hatch glass and the passenger side windows shattered, the roof is bent, as if the rear passenger quarter panel (which has a huge pole shaped indent in it).

I am still crying right now. That thing was my baby and i wanted to keep it forever. I don't know what i'm going to do now.

That really sucks but the important thing is that you weren't injured. Cars are replacable but people aren't. Hopefully the insurance place will total it and give you full value, then offer to let you buy it back for cheap so you can strip it and sell or use the parts on the next 3rd gen you buy using the insurance money. Don't give up!

Sorry to hear that You had a very clean car. But like crazy said the important thing is that you are safe. I know what its like to lose a car. My first car was an 84 Z. I only had it for 5 months then I got rearended and the car was totaled. It was a horrible feeling. It sucked but I got another one and things are good. Don't worry man things will get better.

Sorry to here that man. That car was really nice. I agree with CrazyHawaiian. Fight to get as much as you can from the insurance and then keep the car to part out. Whatever you do, keep those thirdgen dreams alive! Hope it all works out for you, Josh.

show all the reciepts you have on the car, all the money you have put into the car and dont except the first offer because the second offer will definatelly come in higher. try to find an appraiser to show the value of your car and look for other z03 cars that are selling on ebay or cartrader online for alot of money. this will help alot. it helped alot when i totaled my white 90 iroc convertible but i was able to salvage my car, i couldnt let my baby go i know how it is. good luck

sorry to hear this man. that sucks a lot i have a z03 camaro like you.

and sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you can be sure they'll total it though...with the value of our cars not exceeding 4k at the max, a bent/creased roof is definitely going to total the car. A lady scraped my rear quarter panel with nothing but paint damage and like a quarter sized dent and it cost $1700 to fix. imagine trying to fix a roof/panels/etc.

It's definately totalled, but atleast you have insurance. When my car was torched, i never saw a penny (no comprehensive) and had to pay to get it towed away.

Same here. Atleast the officer said how nice it was (minus the smashed front end).

Sorry to hear that man. But if the roof is bent then its liekly totaled.

You could in theory save the front end (if unharmmed) and place it on a car with a bad one. But will cost money to do so.

But the important thing is your okay, now get a Z28 heritage and may make you feel better.

But really is sad when a car you call your baby is gone, feels like part of you is, but it is replaceable.

I did something similar a few years back, only I was doing 70 and spun out across multiple lanes of moving traffic. I didnt hit anything other than the guardrail on both sides of the road....

needless to say, glad to hear your ok. hopefully you had collision on it, and cash it out and get another car.

Man that sucks, at least your okay, and like everyone else said definently try and keep the car, and part it out, and maybe keep some of the parts and put them on a new one. Your car was so nice too

I get a really sick feeling in my stomach just reading this because I know exactly how torn this makes you feel. I went through this same thing 9 months ago with my RS. I know it will be hard to comprehend right now but it may turn out for the better. In the end I ended up with a more solid car than I had before and not to mention it was a Z28.

You'll be okay man.

I really feel like a i lost a part of myself today. I have been crying like all day. That thing really was my pride and joy...and to see it in the shape its in now...

Yes we did have full insurance on it.

And i just went to see it at the tow-place to say goodbye to it and peel off the Heritage sticker (i need something to remember it by).

Apparently i shattered the axle or something...

EDIT: And thanks everyone for your support. This is really hard for me but i hope to have another 3rd gen very soon. I'm just not sure ill ever be able to find one as nice for a decent price...

I don't think anything can ever replace it. It was priceless to me. I don't care how 'slow' the it was, it was just such a beautiful car. Our insurance company (Liberty Mutual) uses NADA book value and something else to determine how much to give when totaling cars...NADA lists high book value for my car at 13,550 and Average at 10,500...so even if i get somewhere around there that would be great ,seeing as we paid like $7,000 for it. So if i get enough money there is a chance i might find a really nice one again... If they try to screw us i might not be able to get another nice car...

Thanks everyone for the support.

*****, I really enjoyed your car/forum attitude/threads.

Take it as a learning experience. It's great that people here are so understanding, everyone knows how it feels when something really ****ty happens to them.

Start saving and get a Z28

it'd be cool if you could try to find another odd-ball or unique thirdgen. like a nice 1990 IROC or something of the like.

i was going to saw the same thing. see if you can buy it back from the salvage yard for cheap and part it out, there are alot of good parts still on that car and that would definatly help out your financing of a new 3rd gen

$10,000 is plenty of cash to find a third gen in need of some TLC and fix it up real nice.

damn there is no question that is a write off.. I mean, it is fixable with an insane amount of money, but the car would never be the same. I would not want a car with that much damage repaired.

sorry to hear about your loss bro, chin up.. new horizon ahead! start shopping around for a 'replacement' vehicle now so you can arm yourself with information and current prices. hopefully you'll end up with a better vehicle then you had.

sorry to hear about your loss, your car was amazing inside and out and i looked up to it as being one of the nicest heritage cars ive seen. As long as your ok, thats all that matters. And lets just hope the insurance company is nice to you and give you a nice sum for it. Even though it's sentimental value is replaceable, this could give you the opportunity to buy another low mile nice thirdgen.

yea Thats horrible man. I couldnt imagine. At least your getting somthing for it. I would def buy it back tho theres prolly 700 in gfx alone on it since there not broke..not to mention all the un-hurt body parts, motor, transmission, interior. That is seriosly sad to see a anniversery wrecked.

Wow, Sorry to see and hear about your loss. As everyone has said before, the car is replaceable and you are not. Considering the extent of the damage and the way the car looks it is amazing you walked from it. Even though you have lost an important item in your life it is not over. Take your experiences from this car and put it into the next. What did or didn't you like about this car? Look for one in the same conditions with those options you wish you had previously. I would also like to add unless there are alot of specific high dollar parts on the heritage and you can get it cheaply Iw ouldn't bother buying it back to strip, because you are banking on the fact you are going to get more out of it then what you put into it. I guess I come from a rust free state where these cars, (third gens) are a dime a dozen. Good luck with future endevours!

This is really sad man. Hopefully with the cash you get you can find a sweet Z28 Z03

Don't focus on how bad it is now, focus on what you're going to do with the money you get.

Man that looks like faster than 35mph....

I was expecting another one of those "I think I wrecked my car" and they swiped a guardrail or something stupid like that.

That is some serious damage man. Glad to see you made it out ok.

looks like you already started stripping stuff out of it.

damn im sorry to hear that! but at least your alright. you can find another for that money, and when you do, youll cheer up. but hey, like they said, there are alot of parts you can still pull off of it. like everyone else said, i would buy it back, and then take all the parts off it that are in good condition. wow. im sorry man!

Yea i mean i got the heritage badge off it to remember it buy. My dad went back today before they towed it to god knows where and pulled out the RPO codes so that we can prove its a heritage so we can get alot of money for it (hopefully). I dont care if i had 25g to spend on a new third gen, nothing will ever come close to replacing mine.

To make things worse, i was looking through pictures of when we first bought the car.. The pictures were dated April 24, 2005...and yesterday was April 24, 2006. So i had it for exactly a year

Bummer man, that's gotta suck. Mecum Auctions has one same color and all that will be auctioned off at their spring show in Belvidere, IL. on Memorial Day weekend. Road trip time - ya never know! Good Luck with everything.

Its sad I know, I still upset about my RS and its not even a Heritage. But when owns a car for so long it grows on you, granted it was only a year which a short time. And what you said about nothing replacing it I know the feeling, I got a nice trans am redid all of the interior and still want my camaro back so bad I won't part it.

But that is the way the cookie must crumple. Again sorry about yor lost, but the main thing is no one was hurt.

Holy crap... I'll say so!

That would get a serious third gen into shape. Tell me this is a true insurance amount!
