Cheapest, best method for resotring wheels!

Can someone tell me the cheapest, and most effective way to clean my 15 inch z28 wheels, and repaint them? I don't have acess to a sandblaster at this time, so I was wondering if there was a different way to remove whats left of the old paint, and get them cleaned up so I can repaint them. Also, how many coats of paint should I apply to them, as well as clearcoat?

This is one of my wheels that I restored. It had its share of road rash and was the stock silver / grey. I used a jig on a power pipe threader (a Rigid 535) with a wheel jig to file and sand the rash off the rim, and then simply scuffed the stock finish. I masked off the re-polished sections and painted the white inserts. I then taped off the painted and polished area's and leaving the area's to be painted black.

After that was finished, I cleared the entire wheel. I used tremclad automotive finishes, but I am sure Duplicolor wheel paint will work just as well. Just remeber have fun with it, and a beer or two helps as well!

Oh yeah, a set of ebay dust caps and some chrome plated wheel nuts set it off. I think they look pretty good; though I could be a little bias.

They do look good man! Nice job. My Camaro is Gunmetal Metallic, and so are supposed to be the wheels. I'm wanting to redo them like the original. Thanks for the tip!
