WD-40 works good!

I've always liked brake/carb/choke cleaner on a wrag. Spray the wrag first then grab the wire with your wrag. Should only take a few swipes before it's good as new!!

This method is good for all sorts of pesky stains on carpet as well as scuffs on door panels

Gojo hand cleaner, the white creamy stuff. Put some on a rag and wipe away...removes all the grease and stains. In fact I use it on all rubber hoses and plastic under the hood. Makes it look factory new instead of that shiny, greasy Armorall look.
