20% tint. Is it illegal???

I have 20% tint all around and it just seems too dark. At night you can not see through my windows, from the outside. Are 20% illegal or are they right there borderline. I am wondering if I should change my tint, or leave it untill I get busted???

It depends on the states DOT. In Texas, you can only have 35% on the sides, but I have been running 5% for 5 years and haven't had anyone pull me over for it, of course, I can roll with windows down for nearly all year.

Yes, the laws are different from state to state. Although I don't think you'll have much problems with 20% almost anywhere. 20% is a good choice

I have 15% on side windows and double tinted rear hatch and I have had no problem for 2 years, cops arn't suposed to pull you over just for tint, they have to have another reason but we all know how that goes...

I think your real problem [depending on the state] would be inspection. That's were I ran into trouble with my car. My tint was very light on the side windows, but they still made me rip it off. The hatch tint went through no problem.

Regardless of tint % - What you have to do is - if by chance you happen to get pulled over. And I know that would never happen to anyone that ownes a thirdgen. Turn on every interior light you have so the officer can see inside your car. As well to make him/her comfortable put your left arm out of the window and you right hand on top of the steering wheel at the 10 o'clock position. If the officer can see in your car, and both of your hands, they will be more at ease and less likely to cite you for a moving violation. Also be very respectful and courteous. This is my $.02.

Talked to my shop today. Apparently I am 1% under the legal limit. Apparently they installed 28% but it has a metal fill, not exactly sure what he was talking about. It just means that the tint is metalic looking thus more reflection. It looks fine from the inside! Cozy and cool.

I don't have any tint on my car so its nothing for me to worry about. I wish everyone would not use tint, then no one would have to worry about getting a ticket and police would have to worry for their safety when approaching a vehicle that they can't see inside of. But that would just make too much sense.

That's a joke right?
