I dont really want to get in there and paint it the same color as the car(car is white under the hood is light grey/silver) someone said that they use a brush and POR 15 underneath the hood on there hotrods and such. but im not sure if thats what i want to do or not. i have some rust spots, not very much but enough. anyone have any good idea's that i could use to clean it up a bit?

 

i used black undercoting rattle can stuff i got from NAPA, went to town cleaning up dirt and rust spots with some brake clean spray and a wire brush, taped of the areas i didnt want paint on, and sprayed it up

 

i thought about it but, the undercoating i used seemed to be a dark brown color and i didnt like that much. but i know the POR 15 i used on some spots on my daily driver turned gloss black after it hardened. it didnt look too bad but i dont know how it would look in a large area.

 

from what i understand, por 15 only acts like a primer and must be topcoated..my dad used it on the chassis of his 36 chevy and didnt topcoat it and it turns into an ugly chalky mess..but it can be scuffed up even with a red 3m scuff pad and topcoated with excellent results. by the way it really does work..ive seen the proof. only it absolutely must be topcoated. but yah it does dry glossy black and doesnt appear to need to be topcoated. good stuff.

 

The same thing happened when I undercoated my wheelwells it started to turn a dark brown color. I went and bought some black paint and just coated the undercoating with it while it was still wet and it worked really well.
