Just got car painted...spoiler paint all cracked
I just got my '88GTA painted and got the spoiler painted separately. When i got the spoiler back from being painted the paint is cracked alot... i guess because they moved it around before the paint dried and the crappy stock spoiler material just bent alot, but even the top of the spoiler is cracked like crazy. What should i do, cause if i try and paint it myself it will end up bein a diff color from the car. Should i do somethin crazy like paint it black(my car is bright red) and have a black bird on the hood... or what do yall think? Thanks, -Austin

My spoiler is actually suffering from bubbling. I imagine I'll be taking it off later and refinsihing it by itself.

if it's a t-top car i wouldn't see anything wrong with a black bird on the hood and a black spoiler. a black and red theme is kind of nice actually

The cracking can be caused by two things: 1.) there is too much paint under the new paint or 2.) the paint shop did not use flex additive to the paint. Either way, the spoiler needs to be completely sanded down to the urethane and redone with the correct flex agent. The shop should do this for free since they didn't do it correctly the first time but if they charge you, you can save alot of money by sanding it yourself.

I would say the lack of prep combined with no flex additive are probably both true, everyone takes the shortcut but there's nothing that will cause a worse paint job than a lack of prep. I'd be surprized if they even primed it first for better adhesion. Thread
