Best place to mount 5" Monster tach??
you all know the one i'm talking about. I ordered the 8000 rpm version with shift lite a couple days ago. it should be here next week. Im still pondering where to mount it though. Im thinking about on the top of the dash pad right in the corner on the drivers side, but i don't really want to create a huge blindspot. i was also thinking about putting right in the middle of the dash, but the blindspot would be even worse there. then i thought about hanging it below the dash, under the heater vents, but thats kinda out of view. can everyone who has these tachs tell me where they put there's, and if it created a blind spot, how big it is? post pics too if you got them!
thanks for your help...

how hard was it to wire? i kinda like it where you have it, but when im not using the shift lite, it seems like it would be a pain to have it there. My speedo is way off(haven't changed the gear out of it yet), so i use my tach to measure speed. Maybe i'll just fix my speedo. anyone else?

I think you should mount it in the far left corner of your dash pad. It doesnt create a big blind spot. Every one i know has it mounted there and i had one mounted there in my firebird. If your gonna mount it were that other dude mounted his why did you even buy it if you have an 8000 tach right next to it. The whole reason why anyone i know including me bought an aftermarkt tach is so you can mount it somewhere you can easily see it without taking your eyes off the road.

i just put mine in under the vents also, it was very easy to wire, i just borrowed all the leads for the stock tach and use the 12v and illumination from my stereo deck. maybe a 90 minute install.

I've got a T/A, and I put it in the left corner, on top of the dash pad. It doesn't create that big of a blind spot, and it is in perfect view. Yes, the light is really brite, but you don't ever want to see it on a down shift. For those of us who don't only drag, but also road race, we down shift all of the time. And yes, even in an auto. My T/A is my second auto that I have installed a monster tach into, and I have to admit, I love them.

Well it just came today. i was putting it everywhere to see where i like it and i don't think i want it on the dash, that blind spot looked awfully large. on the other it seems to fit very nicely under the heater vents, and doesn't seem as far out of the way as i had orignally thought. so i think thats where it goin. thanks to everyone for their input!

Hey zupman, I have a autometer 5 in. carbon fiber monster tach with shift light. mine is mounted on the far left driver side pillar. i have the bottom of the tach resting on the dash and the actual mount drilled into the pillar with the shift light towards the window. its not that hard. just put the tach on the dash with the mount on the tach and push it up against the pillar then mark the holes. then take off the pillar panel. dont drill holes with the panel on. there are wires inside the pillar. everyone thats seen it says its a good place for it adn that it looks damn good. so if you can wait a few days i should have some updated pics up. Laterz

I saw a guy with the big autometer tach mounted almost directly in front of the stock tach. He had it angled so that he could just glance down and see it. It was on the bottom of the dash pad(like how it was fixed on the vents) except it was all the way to the right side. I think it looked really good there and pretty prectical, IMO. Anyway good luck

alright guys this is how I'm doin it. Im gonna mount it on the A(?) pillar above the dash, and put the light on the lower left hand side (basically the same as the above post). that way there i sont have to drill through my dash pad, and it will still be right there in my face. I saw it this way today on an RS and it looked badass, so thats how im doin it. thanks for everyones input, and i'll post pictures as soon as it's in!

one more question for thos who have installed them: what did you tap into for the 12v ignition switch? i was gonna just run a hot wire from my fuse box and then use a separate switch, but that seems like a pain to me. id like to have wired with my igintion switch...
