Is there ANY way to make the IROC-Z hood louvers functional????

Engine: 5.7 Tuned Port Injection
Transmission: 700R4 Auto
Axle/Gears: BW 9-Bolt 3.27
Is there ANY way to make the IROC-Z hood louvers functional????
Has any1 done this, and is it possible to do?? It would get more air in there. Thanks!!

My answer to you might not apply because I own a Pontiac. I'm not sure how the louvers are attached. Anyway, I guess that depends on how much metal working experience you have. I'm an aircraft metal smith in the Navy and I could make louvers out of aluminum that look exactly like the stock ones and are functional. Of course, that's a lot of work for something like that. I would suggest cutting the hood out underneath the louvers(provided you don't cut out any structual material) with a cutting wheel and a straight grinder. Be sure to leave the areas where the louvers attach in tact. Then, modify the louver inserts by drilling in between the louvers and using a half round file to clean up any left-overs. As I said, I have no idea, how those things attach. I'm just guessing. Good luck!

Almost forgot to tell you. I opened the turbo style hood I have on my Formula by removing the insert and replacing it with a piece I made that has a hole in the center to which I attached a piece of aluminum screen. Looks nice.
