Need some advice on upgrading my headlights....

The headlamps on my IROC are dull, ugly and in desperate need of replacment. The parking lamps are no different.

Besides that, driving at night is a bit of a hasstle as the factory lights are very old and barely adequate enough to light the road anything past 10 feet ahead of me.

I found a thread posted back by Sinister Z after installing these parking lamps seen here

This is NOT MY CAR!!!

They can be bought here:
DEPO Chevy Camaro 85-92 Diamond Clear Park Signal Bumper Light

I think they look great and I want a set of headlights similar to (or the same) as the ones in Sinister's car. I don't know where he got them from but they look great.

If anyone has any reccomendations on what my options are, I'd appreciate the info.

I'm sure any new set of light will work better than what I have now. I'm pretty sure they're the origionals so that means they're almost 20 years old now.

Thanks in advance.N

I got them from here at this site and do a location/dealer search---> Toucan Industries, Inc.
You will also need this for the lights to work correctly---> APC Headlight Conversion Wiring Harness Kits: AMC-509103 - summitracing.com

I'd highly recommend the Sylvania Silverstars for head lamps, available at any autozone/oreilly's/advance auto parts store

Thanks alot. That was exactly the information I was looking for.

If you don't mind me asking, how difficult was the instalation and was there a big difference in visability with the new lights over the old? Are there any negatives about doing this upgrade?

I'll probably order all the stuff this week. The parking lamps. Head lamps and the conversion wiring harness. (I only need the one right?) I think it's the 4x 6.5" right? I'll have to go out to the car and look...

By the way, your car looks amazing. I've seen it a few times over at Straight Line Racing. Way to represent the 3rd gens!

I like they way they shine at night...they are brighter than the stockers and since you live in Toronto you can get them at Performance Improvements, that's where I picked them up from now on the wiring harness click the link that I posted above and that will be the one that you need part# AMC-509103 for the install just talk to Andy at Straight-Line and he will get a guy that loves to play with wires, electrical...etc! he installed my harness and everything works like a charm!

looks excellent.. I've long been thinking of doing this upgrade myself and I believe I will over the winter months. Now if only I can find some replacement that will match for my fog lights!

Has anyone had issues with the housing lenses cracking from heat? Ive used the bulbs they supply and the PIAA Extreme Whites in stock wattages and have cracked 3 lights now.

I use those too. Much brighter and whiter. The best part: they plug right in for $80.

And on top of that they are DOT approved (have not seen a DOT approved H4 conversion yet). Guess this only matters if the local laws are strict.

i had a highbeam go out recently, and a low go out last year, so i had all mixed lights, the right was yellow and the left was more white, i ended up replacing the lows with silverstars and buying OE replacement high beams, made a nice difference and it didn't cost all that much.

I've done the conversion and I'm very happy with it as well. I bought two sets of these off eBay: eBay Motors: S 83-92 CHEVY CAMARO EURO CRYSTAL HEADLIGHTS + H4 BULBS (item 290024106931 end time Sep-04-06 20:29:09 PDT) and I got the APC upgrade harness off eBay too (for $18 shipped). You're a fool if you do the conversion without that APC harness, after seeing how wimpy the stock wiring is I don't know how that held up with the stock lights! Here's a good close up picture of mine:

They really give the car a whole new look along with the new parking lights, clear side markers, and factory fogs. I've only driven it once at night since I put them on (and that was to get them aligned) and they were MUCH brighter than stock and the high beams could blind anybody! I'm using the bulbs that came with them right now. Since I'll have to pull the battery to change the bulbs in the driver side, I'm in no rush to switch them out.

I did have to modify the metal piece the stock headlights are mounted in to get them to fit, but that was simple work with some tin snips. I cut out the stock harness but the driver side low beam plug and re-pinned that and then ran the new harness in the stock location (I'm still not 100% sure it's a good idea to run it that close to the radiator though).

Than you area very lucky.

I got mine 2 or 3 years ago for a 25 each. I just got a set for a freinds firebird a couple weeks ago, and they were down to 20 (and birds only have 2 lights).

I cant see why anyone would go through all the hastle of a H4 (or wannabe) conversion when the Silverstars are such a great product....all you have to do is search and you will see countless people who love them

Answers simple. The clear lenses IMO look so much better. If the silverstars came with the euro clear look Id bet you nobody does the H4 conversion.

I picked them up for $20 each. And I never really liked flashy headlights anyway, so the Silver Stars are great. If I didn't say anything you'd think they were stock (during day light of course).

True, they do look factory in day light, but at night they are MUCH whiter, almost have a blue tint to them....very slightly of coarse
