plastic cleaner?

I am trying to get ready for the TA Nationals in Dayton and am going over the whole car. I have been so busy with the mechanicals that I didn't notice the condition of the rear tail light assembly on my 1984 Firebird. It is ok structurally, but the black plastic is a bit oxidized on the surface. I also have the extra challenge that my body shop had a bit of overspray that I never noticed on these panels from the repaint. I can get some of it off by rubbing a fingernail over the little specks and some come off. Some do not!

Here's my question. Is there a safe product that can remove the small paint specks from the plastic and also recondition the surface of the plastic as well? Or, do I need two separate products for this operation? The outside edges are black plastic and the center horizontally ribbed area where the lights are has a smoked appearance. This is the early tail light assembly where there are actual ribs cast horizontally into the fixture and not the smooth faced type with the black grid type of thing that is cast into the face of the housing. It will take some real effort to hand polish all these grooves, but if that is the only way, so be it.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
Brad

I think this plastic buff compound from eastwood would work fine. Get a 6" buff, drill arbor and a variable speed drill that plugs into the wall.

Go easy.

On the lens it will do fine. On the black it's a crap shoot. Some of the soft black just doesn't polish.
