Best time of year to paint?

Does temperature effect how well the paint cures in the end? I'm just wondering because with all the new body parts coming this summer, should I paint it in the fall, or would winter weathe rbe bad for it and just wait until the spring?

To the best of my knowledge the only difference in how the paint cures durring different times of the year is the temperature. For the catalized products you will need one that is a faster drying catalist. If done in cold temperatures you should try to keep the car warm for a few hours after painting (70 degrees is what Du Pont and Sherwin Williams recomend I think and it is a good rule of thumb anyways). Hope this helps.

My dad paints cars for a living and to answer you question it does affect the piant. The problem with painting in winter is that the paint takes longer to dry between passes so you have the chance of making the paint look like it spilled(i forgot the word). Also the winter might take the shine away because of the long cure time.It is also bad to paint during the the raining season because the humidity may be too high but that usally doesnt affect the car if it is painted in a booth.I suggest you paint the car over the summer of start of fall.If you do paint during winter you can buy a fast reducer which makes the paint dry faster or there is a product call rocket that has the same effect on the paint.

Slower drying won't cause a car to dull. Actually, just the opposite is true. The slower it dries, the smoother it is. That being said, it's still preferrable to keep the car warm. If it takes too long to cure, you run the risk of marking it up when you reassemble it.

If you're a poor a$$ & don't have a booth (like me),, (in cold weather) the longer time for paint (mainly clear coat) to dry,, makes it more prone to crap drying into the paint and runs/sags if you put it on just a pinch to thick.

while this may look good in a pic,, the dirt thatgot into it while curing,,,well,,, lets just says it's being redone

Another thing about temp,, (more so with urethane clear) it's prone to chip easier if it's not dried at an adequit temp

A few people I know that don't have a booth set up or can't contol the temp,, paint with enamel (like macco uses) and then wait for more favourable temps to color sand & clear with a good urethane clear,, it makes for an excellent low budget paint job that last

Example

Spring is not a good time to paint because of the pollen in the air. The only bad thing about rainy days to paint is that the humidity can cause the paint to has over (because of moisture) but,, with rain come little dirt in the air

The besst time IMO, for one to paint at home w/no sort of control over the surroundings wold be starting into fall. The temp is usually favourable & pollen is at its lowest since everything is ready to die for the winter. Just my .02,,, not that it matters

I'm not doing it myself, I'm thinking of possibly Maaco again (just shelling out for a REALLY good job), or some custom shop. Looks like I'll hold off on the wheels and do the paint this fall though. Thanks fopr the advice guys!!!
