wheel adapters/proper fitment

I think that this topic should go here because my 17" wheels look stupid.

Here is my problem, After buying adapters from Skulte and bolting my rims on they stick out way to far in the front. What I need from u guys is what measurement do I look for to see how much of the adapter I can shave off. There is about 3/4" to the strut, what else do I look for. Here are the details:

17 x 9.5 56mm offset
275/40 tires
2.5" adapters.

any help other that trial and error would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of backspacing are you running? it should be 5.5" with those rims. I think you're probably going to be screwed due to the massive positive offset you're running! The stock rims are only measuring 7.62mm offset. Say, these rims aren't going on that black and gold '85 are they? That car is gorgeous to begin with. I don't think I'd change a thing!

Black and gold 86, these wheels have gold on them to keep the look.

56mm is 2 1/4", plus 2.5" for adapters, that makes 4 3/4". So if im getting this right, 5.5" - 4 3/4" leaves me with .75" Does this sound right? .75" should be enuff to get me to a tolerable level.

In case any one cares. I shaved off 3/8" of the adapters and now the wheels fits fine. I can still go in a little bit more but I'm gonna stick with this for a while to see what I think. Its amazing how 3/8" can change the look and the stance of the car. Stay tuned for pics of the whole process on my web site.

And just for the record, 17" x 9.5" wheels with 56mm offset will fit in the wheel wells
with 2 1/4" adapters. My math said it would not.

Well i have WS6 wheels on mine and when i first put them on they did look like they stuck out more but , it's all in the fact that they are bigger wheels, BUt they should be 2.25" and the rear 1.25" , not 2.50" and 1.50" that would cause them to stick out to much, i would recheck the sizes ,, i got my adapters from skult and i havent had any problems
