staring to clean it up a little
i bought a 1 gal bottle of simple green. i split it up 1/2 water 1/2 chemical. i think the stuff works very good. leaves very little residue, does a good job of cleaning. i used it on my wheels, took the brake dust off, used it under the hood and it removed the grease and crap that has acculated. my car sat in an impound lot(i bought it from the impound) and i think it was home to some rodents for a while. there is dirt like residue on the under hood area. i started to clean it up. alot of work is involved in underhood cleaning. i removed the windshield washer fuild tank, the cruise control servo, and the charcol canister. i scrubbed everything down with simple green. i am also re-painting little brackets, cruise control servo mount bracket for example. i wire brushed it down(little surface rusted, not bad) and im repainting it flat black. bought i pint of rustoleum "painters touch" primer and a pint of paint. im brushing any small parts. puts a heavier coat on. i dont really like aerosoel sprays, i need to get a gun but my air compressor isnt really big enough. 21 gal, 4 scfm is on the small side for painting even smaller parts. have any of you guys used simple green? it seems to be a good product.
i had some minor rust specks on my floor, this summer i coated it with POR15 to protect my floor from the rain. should i wire brush it off this winter and repaint affected areas or should i leave it alone. rust was very minor and i just wanted to seal it off. can i recoat over the top with grey paint to match the rest of it, i have several black areas that i treated with POR15 but the rest of the underneath is grey. when i coated it with por 15 i simply cleaned all of the dirt off the area to be treated and applied the POR15 over all the the existing paint and the minor rust. i did it as a quick fix to protect my car from driving in the rain over the summer. i at least want everything to match underneath.
