New Rims, and pics of rotting 3rd gen
I picked up some rims today from a Swap Meet at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. Talked the guy down from 150, got em for 125$

And guess what, THEY FIT!! Little bit of corrosion, but for 125$ a little sanding and some clearcoat from Canadian Tire, I'll have a decent set of rims.

And this is a pic of a car down my street, it's an Iroc-z, really rough, but it's a 5 speed, too.. (Sorry if the pic is blurry, I took it driving by at.. 80 km/h

Yea, the middle piece is pretty corroded, it also looks like someone used some fix-a-leak on it. So I'm gonna have some work ahead of me..

Here's one rim, took about 3 hours of sanding, and polishing, still needs to be sanded again to get rid of the cnc marks.

Yea, just gotta sand off the CNC marks. I prefer these rims to the ones that are on the factory 89 Firebird, there's just way too many lines on the stock Pontiac ones, these are simple, 5 spoke rims.

Here's an update on my rims, I've got about 18 hours into both, still a little dirty from all of the polishes I had to use, but really, really shiny. 2 more to go!

very nice work, and good find. i saw those first pics and never expected them to come out like the recent pics. and by the way, i think iroc wheels look great on birds...just like firehawk wheels look great on a camaro.

Thanks guys, I got 2 more to go, and they weren't as corroded, so it should take less time.

i would have said no too, but seeing the wheel on the car looks good!! can't wait to see m cleaned up with tires on the car
looks like i need to raise the prices on my rims. you can usually find those for around $50 a set here in michigan in that type of shape. the fairgrounds use to be a decent place to find deals, not so much anymore...
your work looks good though, keep it up!

the rims look awesome, great job man...you mind if I ask how you did them. I went through about 8 different grits doing mine, from 150-600 and a combo of wet sand and dry(mostly wet tho), and I thought they came out alot better than what they were at b4, but after seeing pics of what you had done, it puts mine to shame, but did inspired me to pull them back off and clean them up better

I used a palm sander with 400 grit wet to get rid of the CNC lines (Which takes about half an hour if you're lucky) and got rid of as much corrosion as possible, then got a piece of 2X2 wood, and went to 1000 grit, 1500 grit and then 2000 grit. Then I got something called "Billet Aluminum Polish" it's like 16$ for the jar, and got a high RPM buffer and went nuts. I'm debating clearing them, though, because it doesn't take much to polish.
