do I have a clear coat finish or regular paint finish on my car (Zaino Question)!!!
I'm thinkin' about getting some Zaino polish for my car but I don't know if I should get the Clear coat polish or regular paint polish! I have an '86 Trans Am and I know it was repainted before I bought it because they changed the color and you can still tell where some of the old paint is!! I don't know if they put a clear coat on it when they repainted it though! So which polish should I get or how can I tell whether it has the clear coat finish???

I believe if you put some wax on a towel and apply/remove from the car the towel should turn the color of your car if you don't have a clearcoat. </font>

I know how you feel 86Tpi. The person who owned my car before me got it repainted (crappy I might add) and my wax pad always turns black.
I don't know if I agree fully with that statement. I have a gray 442 that I recently detailed thoroughly and the rags were the color I would expect them to be after waxing. I used a polishing compound by hand, then glazed, then waxed. The polishing compound removed dirt so it was pretty crappy looking. The glaze went on and came off the cream color it was. The top coat of wax obviously showed nothing at that point.
Another way to tell, with 1200 sandpaper,in an inconspicuous spot, lightly rub. If it comes up white, then it has clear coat, if it's body color, then it isn't. In either case, the sanding can be repaired easily by buffing.
