I will not say it came out good... We all know it didn't. But!! I must say and I am sure everyone will agree, it looks ALOT better than it did.

I am sure that is what you were aiming for.

Re: Final Results From Extremely Poor Man's Paint Job

What do you mean by it was rolled? Like a wall roller. Interesting. I do think it looks a lot better than it did. Once in the bright sun you will see the flaws and then you can tell how good or bad it looks. Still I like the efforet and eventually you will get that factory type paint job but for now it looks good.

Re: Final Results From Extremely Poor Man's Paint Job

I'm with nelapse on this one. Compared to a well prepped/painted car it looks like crap, but compared to what it looked like before it looks pretty good. Although if you do plan to do it for real one day it's gonna be all that much more work with the five extra coats of paint that need to come off

Rustoleum thinned with mineral spirits and rolled on with foam rollers, this was a cheap option for making the car look better

Re: Final Results From Extremely Poor Man's Paint Job

For a temporary fix, until you could afford a great paint job, you should have went with a spray can. 87 formy is right, it's gonna be hell getting all that off down the road. spray paint would be a lot easier to remove.

If you love the car then hang on to it and do the work. doing the work yourself means you'll appreciate it more. what kind of engine problems are you having?

I have read about that paint job and saw some good pics. Cant tell from low light but looks like it had runs. Might need to wet sand some more then hit with rattle can clear. Take some pics with good light.

Dude, dont listen to anyone that wants to rain on your parade....It looks very good, and you did it yourself.....I never did understand why some huys want to be so negative about things that are different than how they might have done it.....Be proud of a job well done, and 25 dollars well spent....

Re: Final Results From Extremely Poor Man's Paint Job

The same thread was on here about 1 year ago. It had pics of a guys car he painted orange. His paint job was flawless. If I'm not mistaken I believe it was a charger and VW bug. He said it involved alot of wet sanding on the final coat. But looking at before pics it is a 1000% improvement. Now you can ride in a not too bad looking car and spend your money where it counts, under the hood.

Hey Man,

For $25, it's awesome. And, who can criticize the get-it-done spirit? No money, sad looking car, you use an alternative method and it ends up looking much, much better. I say, good job.

I have read many pages of that Rustoleum thread...pretty interesting.

Looks like, well, it looks like you spent 25 bucks on it. Sorry, I don't like it. Though I commend you for at least trying to make it look nicer.

Come on, man. You have to like it when compared to the before pics...the car looked like it was near death.

Some people go to Wal Mart and spend $25 on some ultra-lame plastic chrome hub caps for their cars, to make them look "better". This guy painted his entire vehicle on his own for the same money, and it sure as heck looks a whole lot better than it did.

All in all it took all of my spring break(1 week) granted i layed a coat down in the morning then waited 8 hours then wet sanded then layed down a coat before i went to bed,

If i went back i would sand the bondo down way down,

Looks way better then before, definately a good temporary solution. A bit of time and little money, can't really complain when you look at the results.

Hey for $25, you can't complain... that car looked beat before, it might not look super hot up close, but I bet from 10 feet it looks pretty damn good.

Re: Final Results From Extremely Poor Man's Paint Job

I have been checking this thread daily; you have had some really negative responses and some positive ones. I have to give credit where credit is due, that car looked like *** before you started and it is at least presentable now. I know a guy down the street who spent $60 on rattle can primer (black/grey) and his car looks worse than yours did before your $25 job. Sit back, enjoy it, and learn from your mistakes for next time and thanks for sharing the experience. I can't wait for the outdoor pics, even if they are terrible the car looks 1000% better

....but a roller? Does look better than before, though. Good effort.

I'm glad he's happy with it, but I can only imagine the nightmare that would become if you wanted to do a real paint job later on. You'd have to deal with removing all of that stuff first. If it's just a beater car that will never see better days, then cool. At least it's all one color. On anything that you may intend to either repaint later, or attempt to get any sort of longevity out of, this option really isn't a good idea.

What's even worse is that you get 1 guy in a hundred who's actually got the skill to do a good job, making sure not to get too much paint on there and properly wetsanding it for a halfway decent looking finish, but now you get 99 other idiots out there with a gallon of Glidden, a nappy roller and some department store sandpaper thinking that they're doing their car a favor.

Re: Final Results From Extremely Poor Man's Paint Job

there was some geeky kid that I used to live near that used to do that same thing to his camaro, except like every month. One month it would be yellow, the next month red, then blue. I dont think he really cared much, just kept him occupied with something? It had runs in it everywhere, too. Like everyone else said on yours though, looks better. I can't really say much 'cause I have the fading original paint job which I have not paid any attention to. You could say my car looks exactly identicle to the thirdgen they had on Horsepower TV a while back. I'd rather make mine fast then make it look good though. Maybe someday, but not with a roller...
