Stripping/Polishing my wheels, plus a paint Idea...

This seems like a LOT of trouble and I dont think I'm going to do this, but it's something I've been kicking around.

I've got a couple of 91-92 wheels I'm stripping/polishing, the stripping is going well but it's taking FOREVER. I've got to go over it a couple of more times at least before getting the sandpaper ready to finish it up.

But as Im doing this, I remember how much I liked those gold IROC wheels. So my car is red, and I was thinking...

The parts of these wheels that are usually painted to match the car, or painted black, I could just leave them bare aluminum and polish them up. Would look great I'm sure.

But what if I painted those "trim" areas a bronze/gold color? Like the IROC wheels? Maybe give it a bit more of a metallic look, but still. You guys think that would look good with a bright red car? It's kind of a Ferrari look.

The same colors as this, really.

But I wonder if the odd clash of colors the way it would be on this wheel would just make it look too weird.

And I have included a VERY crude example of what Im proposing.

I will probably try that on my 2 trashed curb rashed wheels (I've got 6) later on, but for now here are the two that are currently in the process of getting stripped, they used to have red trim on 'em and you can see spots, a lot of it is really faded after multiple attacks of paint stripper, but I've got a lot of sandpaper work to remove the red left before I can even think about polishing.

Looks a hell of a lot better than the wheels on my car already! I cant wait to get 'em tire'd and mounted up!

There was a gold set made for the polo green Heritage cars. I am getting a polished Heritage gold set next week and once I put new rubber on them I will post pics.

Is your car red? Or is black?

Gold might look cool with black too, though...

It's all in picking the right shade, but Im not sure how rattle can gold would hold up over time.

Anyway, an update on my wheels too!

I took some 150 grit to 'em and tehy're looking pretty good now. MUCH more consistent finish texture! Just need to get rid of the red splotches in the grooves but I have a lead on how to do that.
